Alright, I've had a few fast cars in my time...but I was thinking a Trans Am would be untouchble with the right mods...I am right?? Also I was wondering what years should I get...I really like the new WS6's but 80-mid ninteys wouldn't be that bad...What would be the best one to get considering performance, style, and the potetial out of the engine.

What do you want to do with it? What tranny are you looking for? What creature comforts? Do you want to spend money on the name, or go straight for a Formula/base Z28 and built it up from there? Your post is a little open ended...

Without sounding like an idiot, whats a creature comfort? And as far tranny, not sure, dont know much them and/or f-bodies. Just wanted some get-started advice for a Trans Am, like em alot and want to gt one within a week or so..but I could wait to find a specific one. Dont wanna buy the first I see...

Is there really a base Trans Am? I thought they were already a high end model...

Creature comforts would be things like leather instead of cloth interior, a leather wrapped steering wheel instead of a vinyl one, things of that nature. As for a base TA, that says to me that it was a TA with the TA exterior and interior additions to it, but none of the extra options, i.e. no WS6 package.
As for a tranny, I'd say go with an M6 if you're getting a 4th Gen TA. There's nothing like banging the gears in a sports car, and they have less drivetrain loss than an automatic. Depending on how bad you treat your car, you may need to rebuild it sooner than an auto though.
What every you do, just be sure to shop smart. Test drive the cars to get a feel for them. Listen for things that sound/feel out of the ordinary with cars in general, and then ask about it. The more you shop around and ask questions, the happier you're gonna be with your purchase when you make it...

In order I like the most:
o 1969 Ram Air 4 4 Speed with 3.90 Safe-T-Trac Rear with Rally 2 wheels
o 2002 Trans Am 6 Speed Coupe
o 1973 455SD Trans Am
The 455SD would have the most 1/4 potential just because its a big cube engine that people have been working on for 20+ years.
The 69 and 73 would also get the most looks, but for all around performance no other Trans Am comes close to the 1998-2002 WS6 Trans Ams.
