99 Accord DASH LIGHTS OUT

Well...finally replaced the oem head unit for 1999 Accord 4dr EX 5 spd.

BUT...everything is working (instrument / check lights...ac..vent), except for the dash lights / back lights for AC panel. Dimmer switch is not working, and at night time, I now have an excuse for speeding...

"I Swear I didnt know officer...look (points at dash with no lights...)" :evillol:

All the Warning lights / Check lights work, the clock light and mileage lights come on for daylight driving, but the entire dash light setup is out.

I have looked for a "dimmer" fuse or a "dimmer" relay, but there's no such thing that I can find. I checked all the "interior light" and "instrument panel" fuses...and any other sort, even replaced them all...but still, the dash lights for nite driving will not come on.

Any Ideas?

sounds like the driver's side bcm is bad it's located in the fuse panel there you pull the plastic cover it's the box forward of the fuses it's a pain to replace but i've seen a few go bad the inside lights goes out and when you turn the parking lights on the odometer/trip meter light goes out also and before replaceing if it happened after replaceing the radio with a aftermarket check your dimmer lead as if grounded it will take out the new unit

the bcm is a body control module but on the accord it's the driver's side multiplexer unit in the fuse box on the driver's side it handles various functions of the car like key reminder and others , since you did install a aftermarket radio make sure if your not using the red/blk or if your using an adapter harness it's the orange / orange /white wires if their not used they should be taped up as they can short out the dimmer

I will try tomorrow, if I dis connect the unit do you think the panel will light up again?

thank you for the great info.....

it won't do any good now the output is bad , if the problem happened right after you installed the radio then that can be the cause if the dimmer lead is not covered but if it is covered and it happened latter then it's just a faulty driver's multiplexer

I have this same problem and it happened when I installed an after market cd player. How do I fix it so that thie lights do not go out when I turn on the headlights. Do I replace the multiplexer? Please help. thanks.

I'm having the same type of problem I believe... I installed a radio, now my dash lights wont come on when the headlights are on but they stay on if the headlights are off. I have a 91 not a 99 so Im not sure if the multiplexer solution is the same. How hard is it to replace?

before you replace the BCM check the fuse for the parking lights. Parking Lights, Tail Lights (Not Brake lights) and gauge lights all run off of the same wire(Red with Black Stripe on a 1998 V6). So if your tail lights or parking lights do not come on it is more than likely the fuse. The fuse for all of this is inside the passenger side fuse box.

I checked the brake lights/parking lights. All work. I dont see this BCM... I read its on the passenger side but my fuses are in the floorboard of the drivers side... mines a 91, the only i posted in this topic was because it was simular problem.
