Are GTX engines easy to swap into Escorts and get good power? What would be the best year to do this swap to? Anyother swaps that are good?

91 and new would be the easyest.
If you have a Escort GT it's easy to swap.
If you have a Escort LX it't not as easy to swap.

The GTX and GTR are the most powerfull motor that can be put in a Escort, 200-500 hp can be made. A turbo'd GT or the kl-ze v6 would second most power full, than a third would be a 2.0 SPI turbo'd, or UK 1.6 than finally the US 1.9 is the weakest in stock form.

Why is the swap to a LX with the GTX not as easy.

Because the LX is a Ford motor and the 1.8 DOHC's are a Mazda motor, every thing is different, there-for every thing needs to be swapped.

ok so jeffescortlx, I recently have been thinking about this and you seem to nkow quite a bit. I have a 93 escort gt, and ill looking at the 1.8L T4cyl (BPturbo) w/approx 180 HP. will I be able to keep everything like the wrinig harnesses and tranny and ecu and mounts. or am I have to going to get new ignition systems or altenator or vaccums. I would just like to have a better idea of the project im about to undertake.

You will have to reuse your GT tranny, But your computer and wiring harness will have to go.

Go to Escortracing.com message board
