Just wanted some opinions/comments on the new Windows XP. Is it worth upgrading to it or not? Have you experienced any inconveniences with like accessing the forums or things of that nature? All comments pertaining to this welcome.

I have 4 friends who have used or are using XP. One had ditched because of driver issues and his machine is not powerful enough to run it efficiently. The other three are still using but also are running it with a dual boot.
From what they have said I am happy to stick with Win98. These guys are, well umm heavy into computers and all work for companies that deal with them so they are not like me. They actually know what they are doing.

I have been using WinXP for some time now and the only problem I am having is with the video drivers. The reason for that though would be because my video card is an Asus and they haven't been very good in the driver department. The computer run flawlesly besides that and has only crashed three times in the last three months because of the video drivers. Other than that I have seen no problems and I am loving XP, it wirks great with all my programs and my net connection has gone from 75KBps to 125-200KBps since installing it.

I'm not exactly sure what video drivers I have but I'm sure they are current or up to date. I have a pentium III computer. So do you think I should have something to worry about?

I doubt it, I am willing to bet money that you have a video card that won't have a problem. The only cards I have seen that have a problem are the Asus GeForce 2 GTS cards and the ATI Radeon cards.I highly doubt you have one of those, most manufactures don't use them. I don't think you will have anything to worry about.

Ditto to that. If you can, go with XP Pro, rather than XP Home edition. The Pro is more stable.
I have been using XP for almost 3 months now as well. So far, I have not had a single crash. I would move on over to XP only, and ditch 2k, but there are no drivers for my Camera on XP. Other then that, XP is http://forums.off-topic.net/images/smilies/biggthumpup.gif
Oh, your P3 should be plenty. The only thing I would recommend is make sure you have at least 256MB of RAM or more. I have 512MB and I think that is a good amount for XP.

This is a good thread for me to visit as well, because I am looking at going to XP as well.
I will be switching as soon as I can figure out where to get a copy without shelling out the mega $$$.
Ill use a "legal" version as soon as I can get my parents to shell out for it. Im too broke to afford it, and I wont be seeing any large sum's of money for quite some time.

A friend of mine just got a new PC and is running XP on it. The only problem we've had (I've been helping him out) is getting MSSQL 2000 to use some of the services properly. Its a bit different then setting it up on 2000 professional. Everything else has gone pretty smoothly and I do consider us to be power users.

honestly DVS, you have nothing to worry about. the "patch" theyre refering to is easily downloadable and will take care of any problems that might persist. i have XP at my house and its great. and as far as the difference between XP home and XP Professional....nothing. ok, chekc this out. i have a friend that works at CompUSA and they did some tests to see what exactly the difference is between the 2, and its absolutly nothing at all. its a waste of money, if you actually pay for XP (more on this later), to buy the Pro, rather than the Home. its 100 more dollars. so go with whatever you can get your hands on. and try to get it for free. i did, from my friend. install key and copy protection bypass codes all included. (:coolguy: ) also, its a pretty cool interface. its definitly faster and its smooth too.

Besides, if you connect without some sort of 3rd party protection, you deserve to be attacked. :)
