99 SE Engine Flutter

A question about my 96 SE, 3100 engine flutter. Twice in the past three months I've had this problem and I'm hoping I can get some insight here.

Here's the scenario of what's happening. I start my car just long enough to pull it into the garage (1 minute run time max). It then sits until the next morning, approximately 15-16 hours. This morning when I started the engine it seemed to idle a bit rough. As I put the car in reverse to back out of the garage the engine sputtered noticeably and then surged for a couple of seconds. It seemed to run pretty well after that as I drove to work.

A similar incident occured in June and I took my car to the dealer and had it put on the computer. Everything came back ok. Could this situation be caused by unburnt fuel in the system after a short run time or maybe just just water or dirt in the fuel?

Any help would be appreciated.

You could have a couple things going on that could cause this.
Fuel pressure regulator.
The regulator could be leaking into the engine (through the vacum line) the excess fuel could be causing a rich condition that will result in a temorary rough idle condition OR the regulator could be causing a lean condition because there is not enough fuel at startup.
Fuel condition.
You may have contaminants in your fuel (water or dirt) that are blocking the flow of fuel through the injectors.
Throttle Body.
A build up of dirt on your throttle body (plate and bore) can cause some unwanted running conditions during cold start.

Hope this helps
