World 4wd 1/4mile record falls

As I am sure many of you are aware of, the growing interest of the 4wd japanese and US cars for drag racing has been on the rise over the past few years. Until recently the top cars have always been from and in Japan. It all changed over this weekend in Australia. For the FIRST time they do not own the title of the quickest 4wd car on street tyres. At a huge sanactioned event in Australia, the 4's and rotory Jamberee a New Zealand owned, built, and driven 1994 R32 GTR re-wrote the record books.

The Croydon Wholesalers car ripped up the strip in a mind blowing 8.55 @ 165mph. They backed it up with a nearly identical run of 8.56 @ 165mph to make it official. The other cars it beat reads like a list of who is who in the world of Japanese Tuning houses.

4WD DRAG RECORD (ON STREET TYRES)

1. Croydon Wholesalers.........New Zealand..........R32GTR - 8.55
2. Veilside ..............................Japan............... .R32GTR - 8.612
3. Waste Sports.....................Japan.................R 33GTR - 8.916
4. Garage Decide...................Japan.................R32 GTR - 8.933
5. Signal Auto........................Japan................. R34GTR - 8.999
6. Endless..............................Japan........ .........R33GTR - 9.025
7. Garage SPL........................Japan.................R 33GTR - 9.104
8. Red Zone...........................Japan.............. ...R32GTR - 9.122
9. M's Factory.........................Japan............. ...R32GTR - 9.140

I saw that posted over on the 3si.org site. Pretty impressive numbers. How much of the car is still stock? I'm not downplaying the accomplishment, but I am curious how many things they had to change to get that great time/speed.

the body and block. The block is still 2.6 litres and is bored to fit forgies. The rest of the car is an engineering marvel. Just like the Veilside and others that run those sort of times. It is not tubbed or space framed at all.

that sounds a whooooole lot like the exvitermini.com skyline...

it almost sounds like a quote from their site, actually...

i know they run 8.56, on street tires, so they'd be up on that list if that's not their car...

Yes - fantastic effort from the Croydon team.

Nope - The Croydon car is a white R32 - Mario's car is a Blue R33.
Best time thus far is 8.96 - and I'm pretty sure that was on slicks.
That said - latest update has had the problems with the GF5R sorted out and Mario preparing to run the car again. Fingers crossed :)

SWEET

well done to the croydons team, looks like it should be a good battle between Cryodons and the heat treatments team this season. I can't wait :smokin:

As do many of the competitors in the States and most of the top Jap teams. Mute point.

Aren't all of the other GT-R's on the list w/o N2O?

I had thought so, but from what a number of people (who ought to be in the know) are saying, it seems at least a couple of them do in fact use N20)
