stupid question. Where is my fuel pump?

I have a 1997 dodge dakota v8 5.2L I was wondering where the fuel pump is located? Is it in the fuel tank? I think it is bad since the engine won't idle but otherwise sounds ok if I keep my foot on the gas.

Yes.. it is in the Fuel Tank- along with the Filter

I have the same truck. My truck has done the same thing to me twice. The first time it was the fuel sending unit was bad. showed me that I had a full tank and I was empty. Why you ask would I be fooled that easily. The truck had just been involved in an accident and had been in the shop for about a month and a half. But then it was the Sender that was bad. The last time it was the O2 sensor that was bad and I had the exact same symptoms. What it was doing was sending a false message saying that it didn't have enough fuel. Once I would bring up the engine RPM's it would idle. Hope that helps. And yes the pump is in the tank. If I can be of any help let me know.

Yes in the tank. Fairly big job to drop the tank to get at it. 3 plus hours.

Or pull the box off. That doesn't take nearly as long.

I agree!! It's a lot easier that way.

It would be easier to take the box off, but you need to have someone help you, also it would take just as long because you need help, or you could just drop the tank. A bit of advice for dropppin the tank, empty it first. One more thing if you don't empty it get a floor jack and do it that way.
