Well, for awhile now, a friend and I have been doing work out of a rented garage, just making some extra cash. Well, fortunatly for us, it has come time that we need to become a little more legit, so we dont get bitten in the ass down the road. So, we need to get a business license, get a business name, etc. What I am asking for, is a little help in choosing a business (shop) name. If anyone can throw out some ideas, that would be great. If we use a name someone has put up here, I will send them 2 AutomotiveForums.com stickers if they want. Thanks.

Right now we are just catering to the import scene. (who isnt). You know, motor swaps, putting on a header, springs. We are going to try and get some business accounts to bring in parts also.

Props Kris!!! Good luck cuz im not hating cuz ur not in my area anyways were sorta doing the same thing not reallt doing installing though.
But i dont know if you know this, but what you need to find out is if this garage type place you've been doing work out of is zoned for an area allowed to do a business out of. so you go to your local economics department to find that out. then you have to get written permission from your landlord that you are allowed to do this work. then you apply for your business liscence and they will ask a lot of questions, go prepared. Also you really should get some type of liability insurance, your landlord will probably want you to unless hes an idiot and doesnt realize he could get sued for millions. so for this liability insurance (believe me you need it, you think you dont, then some fucker is going to come over to your garage slip on some oil and have every right to sue you and your landlord for 2 million and thats a small suit) you need the written permission of your landlord and there are a lot of technicalities you should check out before starting to do business on other peoples cars.

Thanks for the tips Lisa.
We already have permission to work on the cars there, but we cannot "run" the business out of the garage. If that makes sense. :screwy: Yes, we did check on the zoning issue, and thats cool too. Never really thought about insurance, but we do have a disclaimer written up.

I don't know, but it's cool that someone will open a shop to actually work on cars other than paint and slap stickers on them and call themselves a performance shop.
