When you accellerate past that gear's torque band? (or hit redline)

You shift when its at redline (noshit.) You downshift when the revs drop below powerband. If you dont know what a powerband is, please go here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/login.php?do=logout) and dont come back until you learn a bit more.

the goal in a race is to stay in your power band to accellerate the quickest... when going around a corner, you are braking (hopefully) and you will downshift if you brake enough to drop your rpms below the power band

you never upshift in a corner unless you want to lose

Actually, some rally drivers upshift before a turn so they dont have to shift afterwards...and I like to upshift before the turns over sometimes to help get the revs up. And uh, on a side note, let the thread die, the guy already proved himself to be an idiot.

Shifting at redline isnt always the best. Redline doesnt always equal the most power. The ideal shift point is based on your gearing and where your rpm drops back down to between high rpm, WOT shifts. If youre torque band starts or hits its max at 4000rpm, but a shift at redline puts you at 5000, then you waste a thousand rpm worth of torque.
