AF Summernats: Rules and guidelines.

Well, I've figured out how we're gonna run this contest/show. There will be two car classes to enter into:
Street class
this is for your everyday model car with a regular underside. no forms of modification are needed for entry, but if you want maximum points a modified car would be helpful to your cause. All vehicles are eligible, except for bikes. Racing vehicles may get their own class if we can get the numbers.
Elite class
This is the class for super detailed, heavily modified model kits designed to immitate their life-size cousins. detailed undercarriages and high levels of modification are almost requisite. judging will be much tougher in this section, so absolute perfection is needed for a winner. rare cars will be awarded for retaining originality while still being modified.

All models will be judged on the following:
1. Exterior:
-Paint, decals, exterior modification(opening doors etc), body kits, subtlety and overall quality.
-wheels(includes size, difficulty and modification to fit, quality of work, etc)
2. Underside:
-Use of polished parts, disregard for road driving capabilities. Elite class vehicles are not eligible if they use standard black or stone guard paint.
3. Interior:
-modification to gauges, seats and stereo.
-interesting or contrasting colours.
4. Engine Bay and mechanicals:
-use of chromed pieces and smoothed engine bays, hidden wiring(it actually has to be there for this to apply, however)
-the more undriveable or wild your engine combo is, the better. a muscle car should be fitted with supercharger/injection. late model cars should be fitted with large turbos and intercoolers. unusual or rare engines in odd cars will be awarded extra points if the swap looks like the factory put it there.
5. Display:
-you may display your car either by itself, or in a club or vehicles of similar origin. points are awarded equally for each member of the club if you choose to be a part of one.

Dates are unsure at this time. I also would like some experienced modellers who do not intend to enter(although I'm not stopping them) to be judges for the contest. prizes are undecided at this time. a full list of awards will be put up soon to comply with the general type of cars that will be entering. I am also considering a people's choice award to be chosen by AFers. If you would like to see anything changed or would like to be a judge, please PM me.

Hi Freakray There was a thread on this a while back and most people were for it at the time. The rules just had to be sorted out. It was totally different to what most people thought the name meant. I will try to find the thread and post a link to it as it will be easier to read it and see the examples of what was meant.

yeah we sorted this out a while back. glad to see there are strict rules.

also can we ask that the models are recently built, rather than an old model that someone has spent a long long time building, something like progress pics that are dated next to a newspaper or sumfin. and a maximum of two months build time i think?

and that everyone should submit what car they are building to a "judge" via pm so that you are commited and cant jsut borrow a friends model?

the point of the street class is so people can enter vehicles that weren't being purpose built for the elite level of competition. so if you'd built a car recently and the contest just came up, rather than redo the underside, you'd simply enter it in the street class. Although a ruling should be made that it has to be your own car, and that a casr can only be entered two years in a row. I'm also thinking a change of name to 'mininats' or 'scalenats' to reflect the size of the entries. Keep suggestions coming, you may not be the only one in your boat.

no need to rush, the contest hasn't got a date yet. however it will probsbly be held shortly after the actual summernats (so those of us actually making the pilgrimage won't miss out). I'm already laying plans for an entry, as long as I don't have to judge.

so are we actually planning to meet up in real life, or just basing this upon high-res photos and such? im guessing the latter..
perhaps we should have a vote for who wins what,,,, rather than have 1 judge...

i dont mind its all in the name of fun

there will be more than one judge, just they can't judge their own car. we'll be doing this via high res photos of each of the judging areas. there will be a people's choice award for both levels of competition, but running the entire contest in this way would undoubtedly lead to a japanese car winning. I want an even chance for glory on both sides of the fence.

Hmm well regarding prizes perhaps we can get SAS or HLJ to sponsor this competition and either give discounts or free stuff to the winners... just an idea..

good idea. possibly we could get somebody to donate a prize that muscle car lovers would appreciate? remember, SAS caters for imports. although I would like something by them as a prize I'm sure one entrant out there wouldn't. It's a good idea, but how are we gonna get Chris to sponser it?

The timing of the event is not good.

I guess we dont need to bother with the 2003 AF Model of the year then now ??

Well I'm personally happy with whatever, As long as there's an end of year/start of new year competition. I'm happy to take part! :)

Hmm, ok Freakray & Primeraman, this doesn't have to be a major competition like the AF model of the year. It can just be a fun based event for just Aussies. You can have competitions for people who don't particularly want to get involved with the AFMOTY. I don't want to any more, I've got no patience for it.

About the Summernats though, if it is to be like the real Summernats it should be based on the real Summernats in my opinion. Best interior, best paint, best street rod etc etc but we can narrow it down to just the few subjects that seem to be the most popular, like if no one enters a Hot rod there is no Best hot rod award. It would be best to do it as a online competition because we could get people from other countries to join in. As for sponsers, who cares lets just have a fun time showing a model we enjoyed building for a good time, you don't always have to win something.

moving the event to the middle of the year isn't a problem. simply means we all got more time to collect our creative juices! As it looks like there is little chance of a sponsorship, it will simply be a for-fun event to see who can make the most wildly modified car. The above list is just what cars would be marked on. the car with the highest points in each area wins the award like "best body" for the person with a perfect score above all others, etc. Model of the year? I didn't know such a thing existed.

So what will happen if we have to move it then Bloodhound? I'd like to help out if I am invited, what will be the new date, any new rules etc etc?

you're more than welcome to help. would you like to judge? if anyone thinks they have the time to just take a look at a few cars (I'll put in for this as well) we can make this a much faster job. I'd like to hold the contest/show somewhere around June, but nothing is set in stone right now.
