INjectors

If i run 7psi in a honda prelude... the stock ECU is supposed to be able to read up to 11psi... but if i ran bigger injectors(so im not runnin the stock ones up to like 99%) would everything still work... i meen, do i need a new ecu to run low boost and bigger injectors... please help

preludes are generally not the best cars to turbo, but if thats the route you are going to go...this is what ya need to do

Buy bigger injectors. 440cc
get a fuel management...at minmium fmu....i would suggest the almight hondata.
fuel pump for $100 isnt a bad invesment...but at 7 psi i think that can wait.

ok... bigger injectors are a must (since i read somewhere ther stock injectors are set to run at like 98% anways, more fuel would be overkill to those) 440cc is what i had in mind too. I cant afford a hondata right now, thats the best way to go i know but would a FMU be enough untill i could get the hondata??? (ive heard alot of shit about FMU's) and lastly... why you say preludes arent good cars to turbo???... I have a 92 SI 5-speed(H23 motor... non-vtech)

Preludes are just fine to turbo, and I have seen many fast ones. There are just lots of horror stories with people boosting h22a's and breaking ring lands. Just get it enough fuel and for gods sake, have it tuned and you will be fine.

Good, i dont plan on makin a bottle rocket... something between 220-250 at the crank (160 is stock) and that'll put me around 200 at wheels. BUT... Will an FMU be enough for now(if i get it tuned)??? or do i NEED a hondata?

yes. get a 10.1 vortec fmu. you will have plenty of oil...you may run a lil rich...im not quite sure. but its def. better to run rich than lean. Its a cheap way to do it. since you are on a tight budget i cant even suggest an AFC hack....ummmmm your car wont run super well w/ the fmu...b/c its not going to be getting the proper amount of oil at certain RPMs....but it will run. and it will boost...and you shouldnt blow anything. especially at 7psi. just dont try to kill your car. you can get a hondata through www.ks-motorsports.com they are the best and they will burn a mod for your car, ecu, engine, and turbo setup. which is pretty badass....all for around $450(shipping included in this price)...but to answer your question again

Yes. Vortec FMU. 10.1. who ever you buy the FMU from send them a quick email. tell them your setup and say is a 10.1 good enough. it should be perfect. dont go smaller! RUN RICH OVER RUNNING LEAN!

It will run like crap with just an FMU and 440's, plain and simple. It's going to dump a TON of fuel in at idle (because the stock ECU will still be pulsing the injectors to add as much fuel as if they were the stockers) fuel pressure is going to skyrocket and it will run VERY rich. My advice is hold off on installing the turbo untill you can afford a hondata or AEM or whatever your tuner prefers, because a turbo car with an FMU just makes headaches.

Doing a turbo or any FI for that matter is a bad idea to do on a tight budget. Get the proper equipment and be safe!

And BTW MXRIDER22 it is spelled VTEC and not vtech :banghead:

he can do a number of things on a budget....

my #1 suggestion would be get a blue box off a greddy kit. if you get it for your car it will help w/ the fmu

#4 just a FMU. you can get smaller injectors like i am. im only getting 310cc b/c thats what i want. but if you get small injectors...less fuel...less waste.

Thanx for all the help everyone, i think im just going to stick with 440cc injectors so im not runnin up to 90% duty cycle every time i nail it... and go ahead and wait n save for the hondata... i can afford it... im just not patient enough to wait.. but i dont want problems, i want to set my setup at 7-8psi get the whole thing tuned and not fool with it anymore

Yea the $450 that the hondata costs can save you alot more than that by saving the motor from detonation. Look around on places like thepartstrader.com and siatlanta.com (some ppl will ship) and other places on the net and you can find them for $350 and less used in good condition. :wink:

www.ks-motorsports.com and just email the guy and be like "this is my setup." and he will burn a basemap to your specs. this is always good b/c you can drive and boost and everything on a map that is based on what yoursetup is. then you can save the $250 for tuning and get it tuned in a month and tell the tuner what you've noticed while driving so they can make sure they correct this. only problem with this is you may be running super lean at points...but if you keep the boost nice and low...and dont boost like a crazy man...you should be cool for a few weeks till that next paycheck comes around.

Apexi SAFC should be ok for low boost with bigger injectors :icon16:
