Can you put a Y7 v-tec head on an A6 non v-tec block?

The D16Y7 engine is non-vtec... it's the D16Y8 that is vtec.
The D16Y7 is what came in 96-00 Civic DX and LX.

IF the Y7 is the head you actually have, you're better off sticking with your A6 head because you'd still be having to use the A6 intake manifold and distributor... there wouldn't be any real difference between the Y7 head and your A6 head.

you need to mess with that RPM switch a little more. being in VTEC all the time is bad, too much air. you are probably running lean, thats the pinging you hear, cylinder temp is too high.
