I know this might be a stupid questions but i aint too familiar with brake rotors. I wanna know if i want to upgrade my disk rotors to drilled and slotted or maybe just drilled, will they be any bigger or will they be the same size as the old ones??

Let me ax you sumthin'

Are you upgrading for performance or looks?

It really depends which rotor's you get, some are OEM spec while others are larger.

I wanna do for performance cause mine are startting so squeek. Is their any way to make the rotors bigger without messing around with the caliper??Or do i have to get a big brake upgrade kit?

Actually all that cross drilled and slotted stuff is crap. I went from cross drilled/slotted Power Stop rotors to Brembo blanks with the same pads (AEMs) and my stopping power increased 10fold. Braking power comes from more surface area. When you start taking material out of the rotor you have less surface area to use for braking.

Don't ever get drilled rotors cause later on they are known to crack. If anything get slotted rotors to help with the brake cooling. Also when you do get a bigger rotor, which you should, you will have to relocate the oem caliper or unless you want to pay 1100 for one of those big brake upgrade kits which come with 4-piston calipers. But you can get just a big rotor upgrade which is only 400 by aem. But you also need bigger rims for clearance if you dont already have them.....

Thats a good point about cross drilled cracking, I have dimpled rotors on the vette. Dont go installing racing brake pads with your new set-up, you'll never get them hot enough to function correctly on the street. Plus they are noisy as hell. Sounds like a big ass semi stopping - minus the air brake noise.

Thatnks for the advice about the drilled rotors. Ok but how can I make my stock rotors bigger without upgrading them with a big brake kit??

Ok 96HondaCivic..... Stock rotors don't get bigger. There is a kit from aem that will give you a big rotor upgrade that costs 400. It comes with two big rotors, steel lines, and relocation brackets for your oem caliper. There is no caliper upgrade kit in this so your keeping the stock calipers and it doesn't cost 1000 like those big brake upgrade kits do. Also if you don't have rear disc brakes, I would recommend getting a conversion kit because you will feel a big difference with 4 wheel disc brakes. That kit cost about 800 but all wortj it in the end.

Rotor size is relative to the clamping force and surface area of the pad.

Without a larger caliper, and pad surface area a larger rotor will do nothing.

Heat is a braking systems enemy. On our cars it is hard to reduce heat. Without running some type of venting to the brakes. And I doubt you would ever be in a situation like.

The best think to do is if you road race, or even if you don't get a set of Brembo blanks as SiRacer mentioned, and some sport pads. And make sure you have new brake fluid, or at least have the lines bled.

Stainless steel lines help as well with braking modulation, it decreases the line expansion from heat, which gives the car a more stable feel when braking.

Sport pads, Non-slotted/drilled rotors will make a world of difference for you.

If you race hard enough where you are overheating the brakes, the pads and rotors should be changed every race anyway, especially if you wind up boiling the brake fluid.

I don't think you are into that kind of racing anyway.

Does anyone know if Aem makes the big brake kit for a 96 civic lx?

Just so your aware, the AEM kit is better being showed off at a show than it is for any sort of performance stopping or driving. Something to keep in mind.

Right because it uses the stock calipers and master cylinder. I know guys who do track days on their stock sized brakes with no problems. Just a little extra ducting and better pads/fluid.
