What should I do?

With my 240sx?
Mainly should I keep the KA24 and get the twin cam head *is this even possable?* and turbo it, OR should I do the SR20DET swap and tweek the motor.
Eather way I want the engine I get rebuilt with forged internals, and balanced so I can turn some serously high RPM.
The SR swap I can have done for 3,200...all the parts and labor included *by a shop I found in LA*
The cheepest I have seen a turbo setup for my KA is 3,000 and then you need labor.
So people, what should I do and why? :dunno:

Being the man I am I would have to go with the turbo option. It is the best way to get power from a 4 or 6 cylinder engine while still being able to keep descent gas mileage. Once you've had turbo, you'll never go back. :smokin:

Well first you need to look at displacement, 2.4 vs 2.0. Here in low octane America the extra displacement of the KA might be more preferable than the lower displacement of the SR. Now I know a lot of people knock the KA calling it a "truck motor" but really the truck motor was the KA24E. Nissan greatly improved the KA24DE adding a 16-valve, twin cam and piston-cooling oil squirters. Stock its not that impressive but the thing SCREAMS "TURBO ME". I mean look at it its a strong cast iron block, the rods are beefy and long giving the engine a good rod ratio of 1.72:1. And the piston cooling oil squirters will keep the high heat that turbo combustion causes down. Just like the Nissan factory turbocharged engines. And then the KA has all that torque and with a change of cams you will have a nice top end also. So IMO I would keep the KA and go turbo, just keep looking you can find cheaper kits than 3000 maybe build your own. Now as far as the pros to the SR20DET. It is higher revving has good bottom end (not as good as the KA though). It already has a turbo and uses a rocker arm set up rather than the KA's cam on bucket. And well it’s a Silvia motor. So in the end its what you want I think it would be cheaper though just to stay with your KA and go turbo.

Polygon, both motors will be turbocharged when he's done with them. So telling him to go Turbo when he's already in that direction is useless. :thefinger  Just messing with ya... remotely :p
RacerD12, as much as I'm a fan of bigger displacement motors. I think the SR swap would be the best. It's only 400cc difference... The SR20DET is much better suited for performance, although the KA24DE has good potiential it's just not the same. Although, I believe the KA will make more overall torque given equal modifications.
I think for what TV wants to do with the car, either motor application will work good for him.
But, if you want ultimate power RB25 or RB26 swap... Can't go wrong with Skyline motors. :ylsuper
Ultimately, I'd say go for the one that's the cheapest... But that goes against my creed... seeing as I only buy the best and will wait till I have the money to buy the best parts.
I guess I wasn't any help... So I'll leave you with this quote from Gary Busey from Point Break "The Dead Presidents... are Surfers!"

well if you really want to make a KA rev high, since its a long stroke motor, there is a limit of how high you can rev it. you have to look at it this way. you get a bone yard twin cam KA for around 500. built that motor for 2K. then put a turbo on top of that. so you can run 20 psi reliably. the car with 20psi will put down around 350-400hp at the wheels. where as the SR, its faster reving becusae the motor is more squared. but the factory turbo is only limited to making 15psi reliably on a small T25 turbo. i've seen dyno sheets of a stock SR motor running maxed out boost and tuned, with bolt ons only putting down 225whp . to get more power you will need a turbo upgrade. ( around 4K ) becuase you need to change the low mount turbo to a high mount. so the whole manifold needs to be changed. now if you want to keep the original low mount, you can get the HKS ball bearing turbos. that will probrably get you around 300 whp. not sure, but there is still a limit beucase your still running a low mount turbo. anyways, the fastest 240's in the world are KA powered. Jay's ran a 11.9 with a KA turbo, and DUI has a 10 second 240 that is also KA turbo. plus if you race a KA with the same powre as the SR, the KA turbo will win. this is bcause the powercurve is as flat as the plateau where the SR is more peaky.

TV! That SR would be way hard and waaay pricey to smog here in CA. Go with what Tat said, and rebuild a junker ka24de.. But piece the turbo kit together yourself... That way the turbo set up will probaly be cheaper than 3g's... And plus, driving that 5.HOOO around, you may long for the feeling of torque if you go with that SR. So rebuild the twin cam KA, junkyard turbo that beast, and have the torque to satisfy your needs. :loser:
What EMS or FMU are you supposed to run with a turbo'ed KA??

Well....sence it is JDM its illegal and I can't smog it, I would go to a shop I know would pass it for an extra few $$$
Ok, well first if I want the KA24DE I would probally need to do a swap anyway, but would I need to change the ECU? Anything else also?
Is it possable to just swap the head from my KA24E to the KA24DE?
How many RPM can the KA24DE turn when balanced...anyone know?
20psi Boost, what turbo could give me that much?

i don't think the heads are interswapable. if you change the motor from single to twin, you need to swap ECU's as well. not many people have done that, that is why i cannot tell you. most people just built up single cams with good results. the S13 twin cams can rev to 7K stock. whent he S14 twin cams can only rev to 6.5K but no one has really tried to make that motor rev insanely high becasue thats not what the motor was designed to do. but i'm guessing you can get it rev to 8K. which seems to be a realistic number. and people usually run a vortech 2 way adjustable FMU for around 7psi. but you definitly need to upgrade the fuel pump to a walbro 255 unit. plus changin the fuel filter would be a good idea as well. if your goin to run 20psi. i think you would need injectors in the 700cc range. which requires a custom fuel rail i believe ( don't quote me on ths one ) and any big T4 can make 20psi of boost. i can actually link you to some very useful forums with knowledgable people for you TV.

ok, ok,I'm getting the idea its easier than I though to make good power out of this engine. So far I need a rebuild with forged parts, realnissan has a good head thats got alot of work done to it including a morw agressive cam...maby good idea? Also there are forged parts I can get. Realnissan has a turbo KA24E for 3,000 *a lil less but whatever* and then I could drop that in, change my clutch/flywheel, fuel pump and filter, exaust and get an intercooler *it dosent come with one, just a cold air intake :screwy: *
and Redneck, you RIDE with me when I get 20psi!!!! :icon16:
serously though i'm thinking like 13 at max....I want to be able to smoke alot of chumps, but I dont need to run all the tread off my tires when I go anywhere

13psi is no problem for the motor if its built right. in fact some guys have been running 15psi on a completely stock bottom end for 2 years already, and shes still goin on strong. the only catch was that, the car is running on a stand lone fuel management. but running around with 350whp for a stock bottom end is pretty crazy. but i'm not sure how hte single cam will hold up. the only advantage that i see in the single cam is that it comes low compression (8.7:1 i believe) but don't quote me agian. lolz
