Well I have only had my car for 2 weeks and it was in an accident. I can't believe it. I was going down main street here in town and some guy wsa stopped so I waited for him and then he decides to back up, I try to get out of his way but he scratches up my whole right side. He put nice dents in the door and in the rear quarter panel. I can't believe it. The guy was towing a huge trailer behind his truck, the trailer didn't have back up lights and i couldn't see the back up lights on his truck so by the time i knew he was backin up he hit me. The good news is the cop said it should be 100% his fault, but we will see what the insurence says. I can't believe it. I finally get my rex and someone smashes it up. Sorry I just had to vent.

I am often amazed at the bozos that are on the roads the days. How do some of these people get their drivers licenses?
Sucks about your car man. It will be 100% his fault though. Don't worry about that! :iceslolan

Yeah you are looking at it the same way I am. They will want to either total it or give me some money, but not enough to get it fixed the way I want it. I just put all of my parts on and now I am going to start looking for a new crx. Hopefuly I wont have to get rid of it, but I will find out soon enough. If anyone finds any let me know.

Sh!t if that happened to me i would of just walked up quietly to the drivers side window, bashed it out, pull the a$$hole out of his POS, and given him a nice public beating. :evillol:

The cop said and noted that it was the other persons fault and that they should have to pay 100 percent but he also said it isn't up to him so I have to wait and hear what insurence has to say. I just don't want them to total it. I love the car. It's a nice barbados yellow si with mint interior and pretty low miles (120k). I was gonna have it all repianted anyway so this may be a good thing. If I can get money from him it wont be a problem to get it fixed for cheap because my friends dad owns his own body shop and he fixed my accord, I just need them to settle not total my car.

the at fault party does not matter, a car is totaled when the damage costs exceed a certain percentage of the market value, here are your options if they total it and you dont like the amount they offer you
find comparable vehicles for sale in your area the same year make and model with a mileage and contact phone number listed (preferably with a high selling price), find as many as possible and submit those, those will affect your value, just install a new engine (stock), transmission or tires within the last 6 months? if so submit those reciepts because they will affect the value, whatever you do DO NOT use blue book and DO NOT say it was in great shape and all that shit, you dont know how many times a day i hear that and its just not true, your car is not any different then any other crx on the road, just accept that, realize that what i told you is the way to change your value and not stupid bullshit like "i changed the oil" dont say things like that because we will laugh at you (behind your back obviously) and it will not make us want to give you more money. you have no say in weather or not its totaled, that goes by STATE REGULATION not by "well i really liked that car" in california a car is a total loss in the DMV's eyes when the repairs are 70% of the value of the vehicle, in my office we go by an 80% mark, so the only other way to not total it if they insist on it would be get an estimate a lot lower then theirs and make sure it is COMPLETE and is below their percent mark.

if they dont make you keep it (which we do here to claimant vehicles) then yes you can take those parts off IF you can replace them with something else (IE you need some sort of wheels and tires on the car, you can throw a stock stereo on the seat, etc....otherwise it will affect your settlement figures)

I have never had this happen so I don't know what to do.
Here's what you do. They'll total the car for whatever they determine the value to be. Then, as soon as the adjuster tells you it will be totalled, tell him that you would like to buy it back as salvage. That works out nice for the insurance Co. cuz they don't want to have to deal with taking it to auction and trying to get something out of it, and then worry about it not selling and having it sit on some lot somewhere for another month or two, and then having it affect their percentages of efficiency and other crap that most of us don't even know about. So they sell it back to you for a fraction of what it is worth as salvage. You may even be able to get them to sell it back without tagging the title as salvage. Then, you just got paid a bunch of cash to get some new mods and a paint job and nice body kit. I bet they give you between $1500 and $2000 if it is totalled, and sell it back to you for $350 or so.
