What "it" is...

Had you guys heard about this? The inventor of this device applied for a bunch of patents for it about a year ago, but no one would release any info on what it was or did. Not even a name, it's just been called "it."

Well, here "it" is...

"It" is a disapointment and not going to get one red cent from me. What a crock.

From The Website:
"To move forward or backward on the Segway, the rider just leans slightly forward or backward. To turn left or right, the rider moves controls on the left or right handlebar. But no matter what the rider does, the thing won't tip over. Since it responds to the slightest leaning motion, the Segway moves almost effortlessly -- it's a lot like walking.:

I bet you would find a way to roll that thing, right Heep?

So how fast would it have to go to keep balance if you were leaning with your face 2 inches from the road? I'd like to take that thing to a top speed track :D:D

Hahaha
Now lets see
U$ 3000 = ~ NZ$ 7000
for that you can actually buy a reasonably decent car..nothing flash but something like a Mazda MS-8 Efini V6.
Lets see. Car vs a funny ridiculous looking "vehicle" thats bound to get people (at least me) pointing and laughing...
Ummm..this is a hard one...

Those Mazda MS-8's have amazing interiors....

Yeah, I drove one a few times..The dash-mounted gear lever is awesome. And so is the "swing" mode of the climate control, Im still wondering why the hell didnt other manufacturers think of that. The air is distibuted evenly around the car, so it cools down way faster and keeps it that way. The MS-8s are quite a good value for money, since you can get one for about $6500 NZ with a 2.5 V6 and it will have electric seats, steering wheel mounted stereo controls, 4 wheel steering etc.. They are pretty reliable too and I quite like the design
Here's one for just under NZ$6000 (http://www.carfair.co.nz/profile.phtml?id=3012)

MS-8's rock ass

What were the inventors thinking when they said this will replace cars in downtown areas???? $7000 I'll take a Mitsubishi Carisma GLS thanks.

What about It riders, how will they cope on a rainy day?????

The Segway is not made to replace cars but rather clear up congested cities by offering an alternative to taking your car for a 2-mile trip. Think of it as more like a bike then a car, some people use there bike to go to work or the store or to a friends house on days when the weather is good and they don't feel like fighting traffic in there cars. Personally I think it is a great idea for clearing up some of this traffic in highly populated cities where it takes you twenty minutes just to get a mile down the road. It is not made to replace a car, come on no one is going to take the Segway on a road trip to Vegas or anything, but going around the city to take care of a few things would be a lot easier on the Segway then fighting traffic and trying to find a place to park in your car plus there is no pollution from the thing. As for the price they are going to sell the Segway to the post offices, park rangers and other government agencies first until they can be mass produced effectively enough to lower the price then it will be available for the public.

I wish someone could explain to me how this thing will revolutionize the future. I think that this thing was a huge waste of venture capital and won't get one damn dime out of me.

It's not going to do to much changing in cities that are already built but for emerging countries that are building new cities they will be able to set up a infrastructure that will support the Segway for most travel done within the city limits. If you look at America's telecommunication infrastructure (I only use this as an example because it is something I have knowledge about) you will see that 90% of the phone's run on copper or fiber except cell phones which are starting to replace somepeoples home phones, but if you look at new cities that are being built in other countries 90% of the phones are running on cell towers because now the we have the technology we can use it and it is much easier and cheaper to put up a couple of cell towers then it is to run a few miles of copper or fiber. So if a city planner is thinking about building the next NYC in the middle of china somewhere he is going to use the newest technology so he can solve some of the problems he sees in the original NYC such as traffic, pollution and communications.

I wouldn't take a 2 mile trip on that. It'd take forever. If you wanted to pick up some dry cleaning, you would have to just put it over the shoulder.

Yeah, it would take longer on that thing. 2nd, I could walk faster. I'd rather use a bike, duh. This is a waste and has no point. And you look stupid riding the damn thing!

But what happens when the city gets congested with Segways?

How is it going to change things? Its a damn scooter with no storage. How are you going to carry groceries, talk on the phone, have a coffee or a billion other things. Heck a bicycle already accomplishes more then that "it" and by golly, it'll burn some calories too.

What about bad weather? That thing is useless for five months of Michigan weather. How about at night? Forget a windy day or a hilly city.

Revolutionize city travel my left cheek.

Yeah im a techie i really followed this thing but what a bunch of bullshit. i mean yeah ok the technology behind it is pretty cool buy who wants a retarded lil scooter, could u imagine what mid town manhattan would look like with everybody comuting on those stupid ass things would be just as bad if not worse then cars and taxi's maybe better for the environment in the city but what about the fuel burned to generate the electricity needed to power millions of those things? just my opinion Late

The thing only goes 17 MPH and it already takes me 15 min to get to work in my car at 45 MHP. That thing is really not practical. And like Heep said, what about when there are too many of these things. Besides a car is much more safe that one of these. It is much harder for someone to shoot, hyjack, or rob me in my car then riding on these scooters. There are bad people everywhere and that will never change. Also what about the price? Like Yogs said, get a bike you can go faster than 17 MPH, take it more places, costs a lot less, and you won't get lazy using one. And also what about the fact you can't carry anything on it. It is useless in my mind and I stick to the fact that I think it was a waste of venture capital. Just my opinion though.

My guess is if you - excuse me - when you get to be a billionaire about the last thing on your mind will be getting one of these goofy things.
