Civic help!!!

I just bought a used stock 99 civic ex coupe! Unfortunately it is an automatic, I couldn't beat the price of $8000 with only 49,000miles on it.
The transmission seems to shift rather rough at times. I did notice that the transmission dip stick pulls out rather easily. I ordered a new one. Hopefully that will help. There are no mods on this car yet. I've only changed the oil and put a new air filter in it.
I bought this car from a 35 year old lady who bought it new and did all city driving. PROBLEM!!! I floored it on the highway today. It dropped down to 3rd and held until about 100mph/7000rpm. Shifted into fourth and nothing. It didn't top out but I couldn't get it to go faster than 105mph. That doesn't seem right. My 98 Accord will top out at about 125mph with no mods.
Any suggestions?
I think I'm gonna pull the battery cable to reset the computer and try again.

I HIGHLY doubt a new tranny dipstick will help the problem. Have you had the fluid changed in the transmission or just the engine oil? If you have not had the transmission fluid changed, do so. Also, comparing top speed between an Accord and a Civic doesn't say a whole lot considering they are totally different cars.

What do you mean by nothing? Did the car just not go? Please specify. If you had it floored and it shifted at the 7k redline, correct me if I'm wrong, but that should be normal right?

I'm guessing he means it just stopped going any faster... My car does the same thing when thrown into 5th at over 100.

To clarify, I'm buying a new tranny stick because it is sooo loose that it is spitting out tranny fluid a little bit. The car just didn't go any faster. No governor or limiter kicked in or nothing. I know there is no comparison between a civic and an accord. My point was that the civic stock should top out at about 120mph. From what I've read. I've only changed the oil. Not the tranny fluid yet. shifting at 7000rpm is correct. However a top speed of 105mph to my knowledge isn't. I mean I only gained 5mph in fouth gear. Or if I manually shift it I hit 105 in third and get nothing in 4th. It doesn't go any faster it just sits there.

My Civic with cold air intake, header, high flow cat, and full exhaust will only get up to about 125 in 4th gear... as soon as I hit 5th I don't go any faster. I dunno, but for a stock automatic Civic that might be about right?

My DX engine would get to about 120 in 4th, and when I put it into 5th is would actually slow down! lol... memories *sniff*
Get your tranny fluid changed, you should be alright. I don't remember how much to put in, I think it's like 2 quarts ??

what are you going 100+ MPH in a stock civic that you just bought anyways? are you trying to fuck it up? who cares how fast it goes, just treat it like it should be treated.... :shakehead

OK, that was uncalled for. Yes, it is a fairly new SOHC used EX civic. I checked everything out and changed the oil in it and have driven it 2000miles before I decided to do that because I didn't want to fuk it up. I had to see if all of the little horsepower it has is there. It didn't appear to me to have it so I decided to ask on this forum, because to my knowledge it is supposed to top out at 120mph which it didn't and since it didn't I wanted to figure out why. That was all. I compared it to my accord because it is much heavier and only has a little more horsepower. Hell a geo metro can go faster than 100mph. I could have bought whatever I wanted but I chose the civic because I drive a 100 miles a day and gas was killing me in my other car. Besides I don't want to fuk it up, but if I did, that would give me a good excuse to put a DOHC in it.

oh and to add. Why the hell does it have a final gear if you can't go any faster in it....gas mileage. Oh I have an old 91 piece of crap minivan I use to haul stuff around in that'll go faster than 100mph and it's a tank. So, you must be some little kid that thinks he knows what he's talking about or mommy and daddy must have bought your car for you.

WAIT WAIT WAIt you got a Civic Ex auto for 8000. . 8000 is the kkb price of a SI you should have found Si (with about100000 miles on it but its a honda start worring about miles at about 300000 miles lol). And my little civic Dx redline at 100 in 3th gear then 4th gear it will go to about 115 120 5th it just does not go anywhere I can floor it all day and 120 is about all I get

I hope you weren't talking to me, I was only joking about your sohc. Nitrous+my DX engine was faster than my current dohc engine and that's nothing to sneeze at.
btw I pay for my car, paid for my engine, pay for insurance, and pay for everything that goes into her.

CAPTAIN SHE NEEDS MORE POWER! The Lithium SOHC crystals cant take the load, srry folks i got a dohc ooh i love that. never been over 102, no need for it, in sohc what are you pushin in those nowadays 115 or less? course theres no power to make it go faster, only whay your gona go faster is drive downhill pinned for a few miles.

I'd say the reason you cant go faster is because its auto, you shouldnt have spent that much on an auto civic. just my opinion. if i were you i'd say drive down a really big hill and floor it, see what kind of performance you can get. also reset your ecu, that might help

I have a Auto 92 LX and Ive topped it out at 118... im confused as to how u got the car so fast in 3rd gear... Once I reach 80+ MPH, I stays in 4th weather I floor it or not... and from 80, 4th takes me all the way to 118... :-) there is no waY I could keep my car at redline even manually shifting it except for 1st gear... if I put it in 1, and I floor it.. the car will rev up and bounce.... then I shift it to second.... if I let it redline... EVEN IF I leave it in 2... once I reach high enough rpms, it will automaticly shift.. same goes if I put it in D3... if RPM's are high enough... it will go to 4th gear.... I guess the computer knows NOT to let the DRIVER fuck up the car so badly

It didn't top out but I couldn't get it to go faster than 105mph. That doesn't seem right.
Your right that doesent seem right I got my totaly stock EX up to about 118 on the freeway before I had to slow for traffic. Try a tune up (new plugs wires and the hole thing). Good luck :smokin:
