HELP Tamiya basic putty melted plastic

I started some work on my Cefiro and I was filling in some gaps with my Tamiya basic putty. I put a bit to much on an area and thought I would use a toothpick to scrape a bit off. Anyway I started scraping little bits off and then I noticed the plastic coming with it. It nicely melted through part of the body so I scrubbed the area with warm water and sanded it as smooth as possible it's a bit of a mess though. Should I reapply putty to that area? Has anyone ever experienced this before?

It will attack the surface of the plastic as thats what i needs to do to bond to it. Should have just left it then sand back when dry and it would have been fine.

Did you prime the plastic first? I like to paint it a color so I can tell if its going through the paint.

well if if melts the plastic to bond, isnt priming the body defeating the purpose of the putty?

All putty work should be finished before applying primer, otherwise it defeats the purpose of primer of hiding inperfections and scratches etc.
Basic putty is not suitable for thick application. You an either slowly build up a volume by proceeding layer by layer, or use epoxy or polyester putty.
