help with custom paint...

i want to paint my car with deep silver flake, but im not exactly sure how to do it. my dad is gonna help me on it, he painted his 66 gto and it came out really nice, but he's never done flake before. i want that really deep silver flake look. i have to put a white coat on first, right? then i mix the flakes in with clear coat and keep layering it until its all covered? is there ANYTHING else i need to know before i go for it? thanks for any help.

Im not sure on the exact process, but I do know it aint easy. Well at least for good paint job w/ flakes.
