Surges when backing up

We have a 2001 Taurus with 38K which has developed a definite surging after starting up the car and backing up of the garage. It seems to occur only when the car is started cold, however I believe that I have detected a surging a couple of times while driving down the road at say 45 mph.
We have taken the car into the dealership three or four times including one time that we were out of town on vacation. They indicate that they can't duplicate the problem so naturally can't fix it.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Have the codes been read from the EEC-V? Were any trouble codes found? If so, what were they? If not, this in itself is significant.
Please list any codes that came up; if no codes, that means the problem lies outside the EEC-V and it's 'domain', for the lack of a better term right now. No codes generally means a fuel system problem, eg dirty filter or injectors, flaky regulator, fuel pump going bad, yada yada.
Good luck and take care.

my guess is like another posts... the injectors are not working right... if the computer is sending the wrong signals then yes reset it.. but faulty injectors can cause the engine to try to burn off the gas like when u flood it

Did you ever find out what happened? I'm having the same problem with mine. Ford has had it for two weeks now. They are telling me that my computer needs a download, but there computer won't let mine download it. It seems the problem is with their computer. I'm wondering why they wouldn't take it to another Ford Dealer or get me a new computer in mine? Just thought I'd ask what ended up being wrong with yours?
