Lowering A C1500

Hello all,
new here to AF, and looking to see if anyone has any experience with lowering a 1500 with drop spindles, spring hangers and shackles.
is there going to be any surprises that i can avoid or that i need to prepare for? i have bought shocks for the lowering kit (toxic shocks) but would like any heads up from anyone who has maybe gone this same route.
this truck will more than likely be handed down to my 14 yr old son in a couple of years so no shortcutting safety. we have already pulled the tired old 305 and installed a 350 motor. got the bug to lower it but still have to drive it so i can't slam it. gonna drop it this week end as long as i have all the parts here. GOD I LOVE A PROJECT!!!!

Well, I had mine lowered. I had it done because I had to notch the frame and I didn't feel comfortable doing it on my own. I watched the guy that did it and helped a little. I was very straight forward. The only thing to look out for is the drive shaft. You may have to make a shim for it to keep it straight.

Thanks Kevin, I did mine over the week end. took roughly12 hours by myself in a driveway with no air tools. The job took it's toll on my body, man was I sore. It came out pretty good though. I have a couple of spots to address but nothing major. The leaf spring now just touches the bed support so i will have to trim that up, otherwise She rides as good as stock but looks a lot better. I had the most difficulty with the spring and shackle hangers. i tried a sawzall but ended up using a 4.5 inch grinder. i work in a dealer and it killed me to think i gotta do this on my back in a driveway. what the heck!

Hey man, glad that all went well for you. There is nothing like the look of a nicely lowered truck. Hope you enjoy your as much as I do mine.

I did mine with springs, schackles, and hangars. I had to torch out the rivets and spring bolts. It would be easier to c-notch and use a rear flip kit.
