I have been saving up for a rb20det... I was wondering i can get one for $2,500 from a local place and the will install in completely the right way with unstable custom monts for an adiditional $2,000, skipping the crossmember which i have heard was not the safest way to go...

Anywayz do you think this rb20det engine is the best way to go because the Rb25det they are charging $3,800 dollars. or is the Rb25det worth the diffrance in money?

With the extra $1,300 can i buy like hks cams and cam shafts to make up diffrance in Hp?

Let me know what you guys think I should do...

Thanks for the reply!

Just to clarify myself I was wondering if it was worth it to spend the extra $1,300 on the rb25 or get the rb20 and spend the $1,300 on mods to it!
Thanks

1300 bucks of smart mods will surely make way more then 35hp on a RB series motor, don't quote me but if I were spending the money I could maybe net 75-100hp with that money. Be smoking Rb25's with a much nicer revving engine...

rb20det=215hp
rb25det=250hp

and personally I would rather have the RB20 over the RB25, but the 26 rules em all....

I have found several website that have excelent mods for the rb20 and i saw a jun cam setup for aroud $1,400. any idea how much hp this would add.
It has a cam shaft, racing vavle springs, optional side sprocket. :banghead:

lol forget about cams dude...... concentrate on your turbo setup for now, thats where you will make your power for cheap while its in its stock form.

Get a 3" downpipe, test pipe, mandrel bent exhaust, big intake, K&N Filter, blow off valve, manual boost controller, all this shit could be bought for around 1200 bucks and will net u a good 30-50hp, maybe more hp, and even maybe less money. Im just not too certain on prices for doing a RB setup.

HMMMMM 2500 is ridiculous for an RB20 in my opinion. The only savign grace is its local. You save on shipping,b ut more importantly you get to see the motor. Ask them where they got it from. Alot of peopel buy RB's from Venus then mark up the price. Trust me..someoen told me persoanlly and he SELLS them. This particular shop charges 2300 for an RB20 and like 3500 for an RB25 and guess where they got em from..Venus Auto..straight from his mouth. Venus sells theirs for 1500 and 2500 respectively. Anyway that is not what this thread is about. I would go with either one. The RB20 and RB25 arent too far off from each other performance wise. On a budget..get the RB20..if not get the RB25. 2000 to install it with unstable mounts sounds okay. I swapped the crossmember and have not had any problems. I think those mounts are BS. I would rather get a carbon fiber hood than get new mounts..but mounts are probaly somethign to change when doing a swap..I didnt. If you use the RB crossmember, you will have to cut the hood skeleton or get a CF hood. It really comes down to personal preference. I am a cheap bastard, so I got a RB20

Side note, will an Rb25det turbo mate to a stock SR20? I found a cheap Turbo and Turbo outlet and am wondering if i will be able to use it for my SR20
