cheers guys, it was my first attempt with the carbon decal + microsol.

Gonna have to control my urge to carbonfibre everything, lol.

Yes it was the sas decal, was getting realy frustrated with the decals before i got the microsol, had 6 sheets of it and i was getting ready to chusk em, lol. this is all practice for when i build my enzo, going to have a lot of carbon on it.

do you think i need to paint the wheels, im not sure that the pearl blue realy goes to well with the solid white, maybe a darker colour, or a silver. suggestions please, maybe with some examples

It looks great just like that. I like silver with white wheels.

Can you tell us how U did the decal? Looks awesome.

Well the basic way i did the decaling was to cut the decal just a bit bigger than the piece to be covered.
Then run it under a tap for 3 seconds then dryoff.
Lay the decal on the item to be coated.
Take a medium soft brush and keep dabbing on micrsol.
Leave for a few seconds to soften.
Then keep dabbing on the solution while gently pressing.
Be very gentle with it tho.
Leave again for 10-20 seconds then dab some more.
Keep adding solution till everything is all done.

Hope that helps

So are there any other suggestions for the car at all?

Keep the rims white - its a good combo. BTW, what wheels are you using?

Tommy Gunner
09-17-2003, 11:37 PM
I think you should get black or gun metal wheels to match the silver/carbon fiber

circuitR
09-17-2003, 11:44 PM
Those white wheels look mean as! I say leave them on. But it's your car so in the end it's your decision.
The carbon fibre (fiber if you are in the US) looks really good, it's worth the time and patience.
Well done

I agree!

I don't though, like the white rims. If you do keep them paint the lug nuts at least (dot of steel paint on lug nut, using toothpic) then clearcoat, as right now they look too toyish not realistic enough.

suggestions for you for rim choices would be a silver racing rim to accent the pearl- not chrome (though IMO it would look good realistically). but silver.

Looks sweet I like the carbon fibre

chrismcgee

The rims were off a ford focus wrc car i put chrome rims on.
I will play with photo shop and put up some various combos of paint to see what they could look like, i myself was thinking of painting them silver, as i think white suits darker more bold colours. But we will see.
Cheers for the positve comments dudes, its much apreciated

Look very good and clean.. only thing I would change is to make the whole hood in Carbon fiber... cos right now it look like: "hey, I don't have money to buy full CF hood, but look at my headlight ! :screwy: "

i did actualy make the hood in carbon but had far too many wrinkles in it. just couldnt get rid of them, so annoying. i thing if the decal was just a little bit thicker then it would probably make life a lot easier.
My fav carbon decal so far was in the tamiya repsol honda rcv kit, it was dark thick and had lots and lots of detail. if only tamiya would make it in A4 sheets, i wouldnt care what cost it was i would buy it

Looking good, but they dont make carbon fiber intake manifolds for RX7s I dont know how that would fare :icon16:

bet if ya paid someone enough money they would make one, lol.
was just seeing if i could cover the part effectively, as this is a tester for my abilities before i start my enzo.

plus it could be a carbon dress up cover for the manifold, now that isnt unbelievable is it.

Looking great. Is microsol neccesary, because I'm going to get the SAS sheets but I dont want to spend more than I have to (which Im sure I will end up doing).

BTW, has anyone thought of making a complete "carbon fiber" body? like the HKS Altezza. Now that would be cool, you would probably spend 80 bux on CF though.

Nice CF work, although I can't say im a fan of the CF rotor housing :disappoin
rims look good, just needs maybe a bit of a lowering and the rims need some light paint.

Apart from that. damn!
makes me want to build my rx7 now :p

chrismcgee
09-27-2003, 06:46 AM
unless your going to be putting tha sas decal onto a completely flat surface i would recomend investing in microsol. it was only £2.50 which is nothing considering it goes so far, one bottle will last years and years and makes the carbon look so much more real, bends it round edges and contours.

just taking some more photos now

chrismcgee
09-27-2003, 07:11 AM
well here are a few more pics of the rx7 as promised. i think its looking ok. cant wait to get started on my enzo in a bit. might have to order some more sas carbon as im down to my last 3 sheets.

All i can say is if your at all intimidated by carbon fibre decals, dont be. if i can do it anyone can. its just a case of keep trying and you must use microsol. i think chris should sell that stuff alongside the decals personaly.

but do it order some today people

chrismcgee

ehaust still to be pit on.
needs a good polish
some more decals
wheels need lug nuts painting
and then its all done

cheers dude, i have realy enjoyed this build. its a realy nice kit.
i would recomend this kit to anyone looking for a new kit.

the engine is easy to build and doesnt need too much effort to detail and the body is very nice to paint. all in i would rate this model a 7/10
