Top speeeeeeeeed?

Cruising home on the freeway at 1 in the morning.... It was practically empty for a straight section of the freeway, so I decide to drop her in 4th and hit it. I got to 120mph at right around 5krpm.. Do you think I can hit 140 in 5th??

3.73 rear gears, otherwise practically stock.

hard to say maybe around 130... all depends, contions have to be right and all that stuff.. so its really hard to tell, only one way to really find out :biggrin:

I was in my friends 99 gt, and on a long strait road, he had it
up to 155, i was like wow. :eek:

With a 6000 RPM redline you should be able to easily eclipse 150 in fifth, aslong as you have enough power to do so. Be careful though, fox bodies don't exactly have the greatest aerodynamics, and your tires probably arn't speed rated to sustain those speeds for very long.

Wait a minute.. does 120mph at 5krpm with 3.73 gears sound right? All of a sudden I think I may have read the spedo wrong... :screwy:

my buddy with a pretty much stock 83 camaro HO, even when he had 3 busted cyl., and 3.73 gears brought her up about to 150 i'd say (the gage only went to 120 and when he let off it took about 20 seconds for her to coast down to it

I got up to 145 in 6th @ 3K RPM.... Decided to shut down before I got caught and sent to jail :)

I do 135 in 4th, then 155 in 5th.

comon guys we drive mustangs.. my 96 accord got up to 124mph. a 4 banger with no mods, with an auto and a wagon body.. shoulda seen the faces when i passed them.. :iceslolan my mustang is yet to be tested for top speed. o ya, and the tach was only reading about 4 grand... owned.. lol

You know when I first read that I thought it sounded weird, but didn't think anything of it. Check this calculator out, at the bottom of the page is a top speed calculator. http://www.mustangworks.com/analyzer.html I figured in 3.73 gears with 25 inch tall tires (which mine are) and came up with 99mph at 5k rpms. Plug in your own #'s and see what happens.

157mph...4am...racing stupid ricer and figured i'd give him something to gawk at. telephone poles and yellow dashes go by very very fast.

How high do those Mustang speedometers go???? Are you guys running aftermarket ones or what?

My speedometer goes to 150 MPH (240 KPH) - and I hit that just at 6000 RPM in third. She still pulls along no problem in fourth. But I dont' know how fast I'm going after several seconds with the needle buried. How are you guys over 150(or 155) determining your speed?

87-89 = 85 mph
89-93 = 140 mph
94-03 = 120 mph or 150 mph

??? Are you trying to tell me the top speed of Stangs for specific model years ???

EDIT: OK, right, (hey its early) - so thats what the speedos went to in those years. So maybe the other guys in this post that had their top speeds over 150+ MPH can relate how they ascertained those speeds?

I'm just curious cause you either got clocked by a radar, got your buddy in a Porsche to pace you, have got a 200MPH speedo, or mistook those little kilometers per hour as MPH.

It may be right but I think there is a gear change in the works....

My speedometer reads up to 160...
