Hi,
I have an 89 Camry with 130K on it.I have a weird problem of late:
I start the car in the morning - starts fine and runs great. Then I park it under sun. Then in the noon, I try to start it, would start fine and run OK until I have to stop at a light. It DOESNOT stall when idling at the light. But ONCE I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL when the light turns green, it hesitates and stalls. Then I have hard time restarting it. It will crank, but not start. Even if it does, it will stutter and die immediately. Finally it will start after 10-15 attempts, giving out a lot of black smoke in the process. This happens at every traffic light from that point onwards, sometimes restarting immediately and sometimes taking time. It even stalls when pressing the gas after taking a turn. The same thing continues all through the day. In the evenings when the air is cool, it starts right away and runs just fine !!
I just got the fuel-filter replaced and the dealer says the ISC has a high
resistance. It will cost me $500 to replace it. :-(
Any clues on what may be wrong here ??
I found somewhere on the internet that Engine Coolant Temp Sensor affects ISC operation and since this problem seems to happen only when hot, could it be the culprit ?
Any help is greatly appreciated..

I recently put on a used distributor and that seems to have fixed my stalling problem (I pray) it was very similar to yours. I'm still having starting issues and it seems it can be cold or hot doesn't really matter apparently. Turns over (no clicking) but almost seems it's not getting fuel or something. After a few tries it fires up but I have to give it gas to keep it running or else it dies immediately

I have the same problem in high humity - like before rain, and during the rain. No problems on sunny days. Same stall symptom - idles fine at a light, then coughs and dies when you hit the accelerator.
I tried a new distributor cap and wires. Didn't help.
