PCV Valve location on 96' Ford Explorer

I am wanting to replace the PCV valve on my 96' Ford Explorer and am having a difficult time finding the location of this valve and the hose it connects to. My daughters car (a Chevy) has the PCV valve port and hose connecting directly on the top of the valve cover. I can find no such port/hose on the valve covers of my Explorer. I was told just today, that the PCV valve location is at the rear of the engine, behind the manifold. I have checked numurous times without any luck. Besides the fact that it's virtually impossible to look back there, the space is so cramped that I'm not even sure I can feel back there with my hand to find the darn thing. So...two questions, where is the PCV valve location, and if behind the manifold, how the heck do you get to it to replace. Thanks a bunch.

The PCV valve is directly behind the intake manifold, in the middle of the engine. You cannot see it. Climb on top of the engine, reach all the way back behind the manifold and find a 1/2 in. pipe. Pull on it and the valve comes right out.
They hid it as best they could!

There is a little screen under the PCV valve on most 5.0 engines this screen must be replaced or cleaned or it will plug up solid it is about $16 in Canada from the dealer and that is the only place you can get one that I know of. If you leave the screen in and it gets plugged up it can blow out little gaskets in the engine. ie intake or distributer. And it is not easy to get at thank you Ford for that one. Good luck

One other note on this thing is that the PCV valve comes from the manufacturer with an elbow . This can be misleading. It just pulls off and the straight-through version is what goes in. There are two models for the 5-liter engine, both look the same.

Reaching behind the intake manifold and pulling on the 1/2" hose does work like a champ. The only issue I have is that the OEM PCV Valve has a vertical hose connection for the pre bent hose. The replacement PCV Valve has a horizontal connection which is causing me a lot of headaches when trying to reroute the original hose. I am still in the process of figuring out a solution?
