loud knocking noises

i have a 94 rodeo - awhile back it started to make these load knocking noises - it didn't do it all the time just some times so i kinda let it go - but now it has gotten worse and worse - and louder and louder!!!
awhile back i ran an engine flush thru it and it seems to make it stop for about 2 days and then it was back and louder again
one problem is you can't figure out where it's coming from - when you stand in front of the vehicle it sounds like it's right there, if you stand behind it is sounds like is coming from underneath, and it sounds like it's coming from underneath if you stand beside it
anyone have the same problem or any suggestions or anything

knocking is never good, could be something as simple as a lifter, but you could be about to throw a rod. Have an expert listen to it and look at it, they should be able to tell immediately.

see my post under the thread "loose heat shield". Perhaps this is what's causing your problem too.

The knocking you hear is most likely your timing belt tensioner assembly. These get weak/loose with age & bang against the timing belt cover. If you have high mileage on your truck, get the timing belt, tensioner & water pump changed out.

Rodeo02, about how much does it cost to get the timing belt and tensioner changed out by a pro? rough estimate.
