Help! paint coming off!

I Got a 1982 Grand Prix and im redoing the interior. ive removed all door pannels and head liner and stuff. my friend used some Vynal Paint in his car on the plastic peices and it worked well. so i decided ill do the same and ive found that it sctraches off very easy :banghead: what can i do? can i put something on top of the paint to keep it from scratching? like a clear cote of something???? :eek7: thanks guys

did he clean and prime his panels? that might be the problem you're having with the paint not being able to stick. I'd ask him exactly what he did.

he said he just cleaned and painted them. it is the same paint also other then the color. so since i already painted mine and it scratchs off so easy and cant get it in the car without the paint coming off.....what should i do? sand them and wash really really good and prime and paint again or what? o and what kinda sand paper do i get? just sand by hand to just ruffen it up a bit? thanks again

ok only sand them if you want it to be smooth and shiny. if they are allready smooth then feel free but FIRST try to take it off with denatured alchohol. WEAR RUBBER GLOVES! denatured alcohol is 190 proof ethanol with some toxic chems added so that you wont drink it. it is pure enought to dehydrate any skin it touches and soak through it into your blood. not that said just use a terry cloth rag it shoud removed the paint if its chipping like this. it will also absorbe any oils in the vinyl that you didnt remove. do you use armor all or similar cus these add oils to the materials and while good for the vinyl alone not good for the paint. next go buy a can or painters touch sandable primer. its the grey stuff. primer your pieces atleast 2 coats put them on in thin smooth layers 5 min apart. let them sti for atleast 2 hours and then paint with vinyl paint or any normal spray paint. you may forego this step but the primer is verry tacky and will help it adhere to smooth materials. after that if you want you CAN clear coat them use a lacqor they are thicker and shinier if your just want something cheep to cover it up throw on some clear enamel its a bit cheeper and will resist impact a bit better but doesnt look as sheek.

if you decide to sand definatly wet sand it. use 360 or 400 as a base to knock the paint/texture off and use 600-1000 to get it smooth again.
