Gas mileage 4.0 vs 2.5

What kind of highway gas mileage should one expect from a 4.0 and a 2.5?

I get 26 on the highway in a 1995 525i. I drive pretty fast - could probably do a little better

I get around 33 on the highway at a steady 75mph. This is on a 540i auto.
