Hey wassup. I am VERY interested in buying/importing an Evolution 7. But i have many questions about it. First, what are the MAJOR differences (not the limited edition steering wheel :)) between the GSR, RS, and the RS-II. Also, approx how much would it cost to crate one over (an RS or RS-II) from japan and get it legalized, OR, what is a good price to pay for an already legallized Evo (ex: evolution imports)? Any info will help, and i already know that there are legal ones here in the us cause i saw a VII (not 8 cause i also saw the front) passin me on the street. Thanx

Also, could you put a J-Spec Evo VIII (8) transmission on a VII (7)?? Also, can you swap the VIIs Active YAW Differential with the Evo 8 SUPER AYC???

There are NO street legal Evolution VII's in the US. Yes, the tranny is swappable, theoretically the AYC and/or ACD are as well, but would require a lot more work and the J-spec ECU as well.

And for the record I'm not saying you didn't see a VII, I'm saying it wasn't legal. The NHTSA has NEVER approved any Evolution in the US and only US Spec Evo 8's are legal here. People driving other Evolutions are commiting insurance and registration fraud.

Then what is evolution imports doing? Are they completely illigal??? How could they get away with it then cause i see them sellin cars on ebay, and people on this forum say they got it from them and it was ligit???

I hate redirecting to other forums, but here's a start.

Basically the people with EI cars have nothing to show for it atm. G&K's petition was pretty much shitted upon by MMC and instead of responding to MMC's claims, G&K argued they were invalid because they were submitted a little late. Anyway, if read some of Senor Info's threads on Evom you'll have a pretty good idea of where those cars stand right now...(in a warehouse).

Some were registered, some were street driven, but all were recalled.

Well, in my own personal opinion, because they don't know how to conduct business.

Look a few threads down.

Well , for one, mitsu claims a 0-60 in 4.4 for GSR and 0-60 in 4.1 for VII RS Sprint IIs, Not sure if its true but thats pretty impressive VS evo VIIIs 5.1 and slower quarter mile.

The 7 als0 has the AYC/ACD drivetrain, a bit more power, and is lighter.

I prefer evo VII looks over VIIIs. I want to make a nice fast VII like the 771hp Norris Designs Evo VII. spl00ge.

Norris Designs Evo VII is nuts

0-60 in 2.9
0-100 in 6 seconds= nutz
top speed of 200mph

Norris Design's Evo 7 is way fast. 0-100 in 6 seconds is pretty fast, it must in the 9 second range in the 1320.

Figures are very true as i have one and it's a blast. The AYC/ACD gives you amazing handeling. It's not available in the EVO VIII to give a more comfortable ride. When you do that u also loose out on performance.

Any imported car not sold through normal channels in the US, newer than 25 years and driven on the streets = a law broken somewhere.

EDIT: There is also a military loophole for temporary legality and a temporary regality status for US citizens who've lived abroad for a certain amount of time.

Entirely possible. Again, I'm not saying there aren't any in the US, I'm saying they're not 100% legal.

.....so the blitz R-34 skyline isnt street legal? too bad it is, and that cars brand new..you cAN get them legal here, i've seen photos of peoples legal evo vIIs they gotten thru evo imports, ill post them up once i find links again. You can get it legalized if you have crash test data, and it meets emission standards, or at least thats what i've been told by some improters, and RHDs can be street legal with special permits[or just get converted]. theres around 10-15 skylines in the US....most of which i beleive are STREET LEGAL.......if you can with skyline, then EVO is a possibility.......

people also have RHD jap imported integra type R's....that are street legal.

No, they can be made legal. See the NHTSA's importation eligibility list athere. (http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/ELIG0521-03.html)

I was speaking of Evolutions 1-7.

Where are you getting your info from. I live in mass (well inside the us borders) and I own an Evo 6. I purchaced it from Danvers Mitsubishi and I have shoped around at many Mitsu Motors that all have Evo's 7 and below. Maby its just your sucky state that dosn't allow them but all Mitsu dealers up here seem to agree that its perfectly leagal. And by the way Evo 6 is the perfect Evo regardless of your stats. And the best looking.

01-28-2004, 04:27 PM
Not US legal w/o plenty of changes ;)

ever wonder why Evo 1-7's are almost nonexistant in US?

all i have to say is:
1) lucky for you
2) WOW! this is one hell of a dead thread!

i just went and did a little research, and yes, the evo 8 is the first evo to match US collusion standards. you are one hell of a lucky ass fucker.

"Lancer Evolution VIII is based on the design of Evo VII to meet the collusion standard of the U.S. So Mitsubishi designs the Evo VIII with 178.5 inches in length, and that is 3.11 inches longer than the Evo VII."
