How safe would NOS be?

I have a 95 prelude vtec with a 136k miles the engine runs very strong and very smoothly and i was wondering how safe it would be, and how smart it would be in the long run, if i were to run a 35hp shot of nos or 55hp shot of nos? And also about how much these would drop me in the 1/4? THANKS ALOT

You should be fine as long as the motor is well maintainced and runs good like you say. I wouldn't spray higher than 55 like you say. As long as you have adequate fuel you alright. I would go with NX, they have a pretty good rep, as for nos I have bad luck with them. I had a 55shot on my stock motor for about 6 months and out of nowhere (first time on the track) the damn fuel solenoid just died and the motor detonated badly. After removing the head we saw the #3 rod bent and put the piston through the wall. But it was a good excuse for a swap :grinyes:
As for the times to expect, I dont know what those run stock but search around and I am sure you can get a general idea...

Well what i ran stock was 15.8 at 88-89mph but i have no idea what a 35hp shot of nos would drop it to

what motor is that? If you are running 15.8 now, maybe you could pull low 15s or high 14's at best

He will need more than a 35hp shot for low 15 high 14 1320's he will need at least a 50hp shot. Unless he is a extremely good driver, I mean professional grade driver

well i say you could even go as high as a 75 shot if you upgrade the fuel pump. nobody has mentioned the zex kit. zex kit power is rated at the crank not at the wheels. BUT its on of the safest nitrous kits available on the market that i know of besides the venom kit.

I ran a .038 jet (dry) in my integra for a long time, I also ran several other jets - all I have to say is dont rely on a A/F guage to make u think its safe, make sure you run a high octane fuel also

:iagree: with the Zex kit, they have great entry level dry kits with simple, I mean simple install when it comes to juice. NOS is better known for their advanced systems which is only for the advanced users with big bank accounts.
How safe would NOS be?
Very safe it you never actually spray it. Dont be stupid and abuse or over-use it and you should be OK. Since your asking questions like that, you should edjamacate yourself with some books before you give the baby her bottle. www.summitracing.com has some
15.8 N/A 35HP shot = 15.5 if you dont miss a shift.

The motor is the h22a. With 15.8 at the track and a 35 shot only lower me 15.5 it doesnt really seem worth running that low of a shot to me... I will probably not even run NOS and just do bolt ons till i can afford to rebuild it and then go turbo.. isnt the average for lewds w/ a 2.2 to run around 15.8 stock?

The average for ludes (vtec) is actually around 15.2-15.4
Practice yours launches and such and you'll be surprised at how much better driving can drop your times.
As for nitrous, i'd say its pretty safe given it is set up properly and not abused.

Running full 75 shot on a j30 motor, has 105k's & perfect fuel pressure. Nos is alot safer than it used to be. The Zex kit I run is a dry system and when initially set up we took the increases in 3 phases.
1) installed 55hp shot, advanced timing 2 deg. ran perfect over a 2 week period, stock plugs work fine.
2) installed 65hp shot, ran fuel pressure test & ran as above worked fine on stock plugs.
3) installed 75hp shot again checked fuel pressure & went to ngk 6's to help reduce plug temp, this helps to avoid detonation. Must run 92 or higher octane.
Good experience with the Zex dry set up, really works well and is perfectly safe but make sure you have a solid base b4 you go and add 75hp take the time to step thru the hp ranges and ensure your engine is burning the mixture right.

Not trying to dog you guys, but my Del Sol ran high 14's with a B16 with just bolt-ons. If these are the best gains one could expect from NOS, I would look at seriously beefing up the internals. I chose not to go with NOS with the Del Sol (high compression!), but we did up the compression in my friend's GS-R Teg (N/A) and cut 0.9 seconds off the 1/4 mile, on pump gas... I homemade turboed my POS Civic HB at 9 psi on a stock block and got upper 14s,(!?@#$) so I guess what I'm saying is that maybe it would be worth throwing the extra cash in, perhaps saving it up for a year. If you want to go with NOS it would be cool to beef the engine up a bit to take a bigger shot, or explore other options. I haven't run NOS myself, though, so I just thought I'd load my opinion here. NOS is cheap power, though...and easy. I just liked the other options better.

how much did you raise the compression on the gsr?

Sorry, I was away from the computer for a while... Well, they were Spoon pistons, and I'd have to check for sure, but if I remember right, my b16 runs what, 10 or 10.2:1 compression, and so I think these b18 pistons in the GSR are like 11:1? Anyways, my delSol was faster, but now this thing kicks my ass. There was a trouble code at first, and it scared us because it was the knock sensor, but it turned out we just didn't quite have it connected (whew!) and it has run fine ever since. We had to shave the sides of the connecting rods to fit the pistons, as we didn't use lightened narrower rods, just the stock ones. Now that I think of it, we also put in a lightened flywheel and a stage II clutch, which shaves a bit off of the time, but the engine pulls a hell of a lot harder. Very driveable and lots of fun.

Did anyone bother to notice that this thread is like 8 months old. Please let the old threads stay that way, there is no reason to revive them. I mean it has been so long, the guy who posted the inital question has probably already done what he is going to do!
