short shifter trouble

well..first off i cant get the stock shifter out...someone help me out here...i was going to just take the bottom bolts out but they are too rusted..i cant even get a grip on them...how do i get it out from the top...
second off....the shifter i got isnt exactly what i was looking for...do they make a short throw shifter that is several inches shorter than stock..

I got mine out by laying underneath and using a socket to undo the little bolts holding the shifter in place...my dad was in the car holding the little heads of the bolts in place with a wrench.....i dunno how you could do it by yourself unless you take that whole thing out of the car so you can get at both sides of the bolts at once.

You have to take out the bottom bolts, thats the only way. What tool were you using? If you have aftermarket exhaust you may need to drop that. B&M makes a short little shifter - I wish my Hurst was longer that way its closer to the driver. Dont forget shifter bushings with a short throw.

Spray the bolts with penatrating oil & let sit over night - spray again then try to remove.

Well..thats what I figured...the only prob is those bolts are so rusted that i cant even get grip on the to turn them..so im going to just brake them off as soon as i figure out how to so. Might just use a power sander or grinder on the top of them.

Get the right size 6-point metric socket - i think 10mm anyways put it on a 12" or 6" extension & pound it on the bolts with a hammer. If still no grip try the same thing with the next size smaller socket. Dont break them off yet or did you already strip the shit out them with vice grips? Even if thats the case try pounding smaller sockets on the bolts before butching :headshake

Soak in penetrating oil overnight!
Heating the bolts with a torch will make for easy remoal.

when i first tryed to put mine in i was confused to but then i workd on my car at work by using the car lift and i saw exactly what 2 do

well i crawled my a$$ under my car with a friend and it came out no problem, the only problems i had were getting those crappy bushings in and the fact that i put a short throw in that was made for a 200 civic, so i had to shave down the edges of the bottom to fit through the pivot holder thingy, oh and i tore the pivot boot, but its $9.00 at honda for a new one.and if nothing else works, just get 2 or 3 people to squeeze those phocking vise-grips on so there so tight they cant come off, then buy now bolts

how can you not get a grip on a rusted bolt? :eek7: but the only problem i had when installing numerous ones was that the bottom of the bolts are FLAT meaning you cant get shit to grip it, i recommend that once you get it out use some different nuts/bolts w/ some lock washers for extra security

any shift rod from an 88-01 will work in our cars, the 88-93 (88-91 crx, 90-93 integra) just have a slant where as the 94-01 has the little s bend, but they both work just fine, i have one of each style installed into each of my CRX's

i had a friend up top with locking pliers holding the odd oval shaped screws while i got underneath with a 10mm and loosened them.

Im just going to drill them out from the top and replace...much easier that way
