I recently purchased a 96 Chevorlet Surburban with about 120000 miles on it. Recently I just went from Oklahoma City to Florida and from Oklahoma City to Shreveport, LA no problems at all. No recently it the light came on and I just had all the fluids and everything flushed and filled. It is running great with no problems at all. Does anyone possibly know where I should start? Thanks Ed

Have the PCM codes scanned...this will help with diagnosis.
When the SES (check engine light) comes on, that indicates a problem with the computor controls on your vehicle.
The problem may be as simple as a loose gas cap or more complicated like a schewed or bad sensor.

On 96 and newer vehicles the only place to start other than something completely obvious is to find out why the light is on via OBDII scan tool.
You can get your own code reader for under $100 these days. Most dealerships will charge between $45-$90 jsut to tell you what the computer is saying.
Like what was said ealier it could be somehting simple like a leaking or loose gas cap to a failed catalytic, sensor, misfire, etc...

If you can't afford to get the computer scanner or scanned many places do this for free like Auto zone. Or you can do a quick manual check of things like plugs, wires, tighten the gas cap, check for exhaust leaks, fluid levels, broken wires, loose connectors, etc... Then pull the negative battery cable overnight and put it back on in the morning.
If the light comes back on withint about 250 miles there is something wrong and before you go blindly swapping parts get the code.
