i have a 1991 ford mustang and it has the pathetic four banger and i was wondering if there was any way to swap it out for either a sr20det motor or a vg30dett

Why waste your time custom making motor and trans mounts for either of those motors when you could dump a 2.3T motor right into your car and easily outpower either of em, or swap to a V8.

go with the turbo 4 cyl engine. you can pick one out of a turbo thunderbird from 84-88 from a junk yard for a few hundred. actually grab the whole car if you can, take the engine, the manual tranny if you need to do the manual swap, and also the rear axle, it's 8.8 limited slip i am pretty sure. all can be had for about 600!! and the engine is pretty much the same as what you have except it has all forged internals n such. then you can spend about another grand or so and push that baby up around 350 hp and 400 torque. after that the next big thing is getting an aluminum head which is about 1500.

Both those engines are Nissian engines, you wouldn't find them in a civic. And both of them are very decent engines. the SR20DET (2.0 4 banger turbo) pushes out close to 300 hp (depending on where you get it) and the vg30dett ( V6 Twin Turbo) is a beast of an engine with close to 320 hp.
Don't put either of these engines in your mustang, unless you want to be shot at by some Mustang fanatic. If you want one in any car, sell the stang and get a 240SX, the only 4 banger I'd ever drive (RWD and made to drift hehe)

:newburn: the reason y is because the motor already in it is already a jap motor anyway

who in their right mind would put a jap motor in a mustang??? at any rate i still think you could take my idea, make over 300 rwhp for undero 2000 which is a lot less than most import motors are gonna cost you. domestic 4 cyl engine = 400, manual tranny = 250 , new turbo = 400, rear axle = 200-300, buy whole turbo coupe car for ~600 and get the engine, rear axle and manual tranny for a lot less. so get the donor car, plus the turbo, plus new intercooler, etc and little parts and your cost will more than likely be under 2000 maybe as high as 3000 depending on what you choose to replace etc. go to www.stangnet.com and go to the 2.3 forum.

the engine swap is a cool idea and if it wasn't such an icon in america i'd think it was cool, but you are seriously gonna get like shot at if you drive a mustang with a tip on it.

sounds like quite a project I know SR20s can push 800ish and VGs about the same maxed out thats alot of balls but its going to be a load of cash to do that much more then a 5.0 or 351 plus the motor swap will be alot of money if your heartset on it i'd say go ahead it be really differnt to see and a crazy ass swap gets alot of respect from me. Also it sounds like you don't know about the 2.3 turbo motor use that if your wanting boost

Heres what ya do...
Get an S13 thats aboutto blow up for like $1,000...
Get a RedTop SR20DET and replace all gaskets, clutch, flywheel before you put it in...
get it droped in and get a boost control....IF you get an exhaust and a FMIC, you can push 15psi on the stock turbo and make about 250 RWHP...in a 2300lb car....you can upgrade the turbo and push like 24 psi and have near 400 RWHP :)
the stock SR20DET block is good up to about 500 hp....very potent car.
RB25DETT is a skyline motor...would cost like 13k to drop into a S13...but hey, go for it :) There unblelievable.
