I was wondering if I would be able to put a LS1 and a 6 speed tranny with 2000 trans am rear end all on a 88 camaro. I know it will take lots of work but is it possible, not really sure my 88 right now is a v6 with a auto , really looking to transform it into a bad ass machine so when i race they dont know what the fuck to say. So I ask again is it possible

Is it possible? Yes.
Will it be expensive? Very.
Time consuming? OH yes.
Pain in the Ass? Definately.

you might be better off going with an LT1 setup , from what I understand besides wiring it should almost be a bolt in. The newer rear axle is about 2 inches wider I believe so the wheels will stick out a little bit which looks pretty cool imo . I have 2 inch spacers on my z and it looks awesome .

If ya want a badass race machine, I woudln't think about using a stock LS1 F-bod rear. The 10 bolt is weak especially once ya get it on some sticky tires. I'd personally recommend going with a 12 bolt or a 9".

Here is the company you need to contact!
Third Gen Resource (http://www.thirdgenresource.com/conversion_parts)
They have everything you need to do a full conversion. Junk the rear-end, it's worthless!

triplerc,
Pick up the November 2003 issue of Chevy High Performance. On pg. 54 they have an LS1 into third gen swap. It has a good overview of everything involved. They got most of the info from www.thirdgenresource.com (http://www.thirdgenresource.com)
