I hope this doesn't invite any flame wars but... how would you guys define "ricers"? Anybody that kits up their car or uses neon lighting.. or *gasp* Altezzas? Anybody that watches The Fast and the Furious movies or plays Initial D/GT3? How bout those park bench wings? (Some look halfway decent at least.. don't you think?)
I think the all show, no go... would be the best description, but does that mean it would be "un-rice" if you had the go (engine swap), and wanted more show? The 240 stock looks great, but that doesn't mean you can't improve on that with other things...
Anyway, so what do you guys think make up a ricer?
P.S. I'm really terrified to ask, but what's wrong with the Veilside kits?
http://www.visionperformance.net/images/Veilside/240SX_CIII_front.jpg
That car looks dead sexy if you ask me...
Oh, and does anybody know or recommend any reliable/cheap places to buy bodykits and other internal/external/performance parts for a 1990 S13 Fastback? (Statewide, preferrably SoCal... and not just manufacturers. Yes, I've checked out the links in the FAQ)
Just one more link...
http://www.jacquemond.com/240.htm
What do you think about these? Expensive as hell I bet... but gives that Porsche-esque look. The tail light conversion looks pretty damn tempting too but... JDM Kouki anyone?
And... on that FINAL note,
http://www.importfan.com/product.asp?3=1387
What the hell is up with that? Says 2-door conversion, but it should be for the 3-door(Fastback)?

i try not to throw around the term ricer, since you are essentially putting down something that someone else is probly proud of. But, to me a ricer is the kid with the shit car and WAY to much in the way of vinyl graphics. typically these graphics will be yellow (ricer seem to think yellow matches everything, or at least where i live they do). someone that does crazy body work and conversion i do not consider a ricer since doing custom body work is no easy task (i secretly lust for a sil15-80, to bad i have a coupe). oh, and i'll have my spoilers flush mounted, thanks. basically, to me, if you don't wanna be a ricer, don't mount a huge spoiler, don't use exhaust tips on your stock exhaust, and don't use vinyl graphics. just keep your car tasteful.

and grncivichdr, why dont u make ur coupe into a 15via (i dunno, new name???)
because the s15 are more of a coupe style now anyways. so u should just try that and see what happens.

Nah, its an s13 coupe so i don't think the front an rear end styling will match too well considering the 10 years or so between the two designs. personally i don't even like the sil14.5. i don't think the front and rear match on that either. The sil15-80 just seems to flow right when you use jdm 180sx rear lights, check out the two from signal. right now i'm piecing an s13 front end conversion together off of ebay tho and i've considered trying an r32 front end conversion as well (i'm just not sure i wanna try somethin new since the s13 silvia front if bolt on).

yea i agree with grncivichr. yea a ricer is someone who makes their car look fast, but isnst fast. if u wanna be more specific, like what grncivichr said, pos car with pos parts, trying to make the car look good with cheap parts. therefore the car doesnt look right, you should be able to tell, if not, then ur a ricer. jk but u get the point. everyone still seems to have their own meanings of the term ricer though.
i love the 180sx/s15 look.

the term "ricer" has just about as much meaning as the word "fuck" now. which is next to nothing.
its come down to people who know how to make a car better. and losers. which in the end, is preference, and if u prefer to be a loser, so be it.
and i intend not to. :smokin:

ok some people may not agree with me but to me altezza tail lights are gay, hate them, look nasty, but seriously tell me a ricer that doesn't want some? thats my reasoning for it
but the worst thing I've ever seen in my life, also the funniest... wanna know about it check out my post 'mischief 3000'

Ok I followed that TeamToilet dumbcars section. Seems like they are nothing more than a bunch of elitist assholes. You guys here in the forum hate ricers for trying to be trendy when those TeamToilet guys are a fuck of a lot worse. They mention on more than one occasion how the Veilside look was cool in 1997 or how that poor guy will be stuck with the Kombat kits until they become cool again?!? If you do something to YOUR car, do it for yourself -- just the word TeamToilet says and explains all. All that matters is you're happy with your decisions. Don't ever let anybody take that joy away from you.
Maybe I'm alone but I think that Veilsides are a great improvement on the S13 Fastback. Nothing wrong with having style with performance...

Whatever. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?
You know... it'd be nice if we all could learn and understand how cars work but some of us, like myself, don't have neither time, tools, nor resources to extensively go into the mechanics behind an automobile.
Me for example... I love driving, for the sake of driving. Just being on the open road feeling the car hug the pavement. I mean shit, I drive an 84' Maxima and still love to drive. Only recently was I aware about the 240 scene. My cousin, who's 240 I hope to get just sits in his garage most of the year. He told me about the Skyline swap a couple years back but that was before I even had a license. And now that reality is coming closer by the months. I haven't even learned to drive stick but all I can think about is having that car, just from reading about all your great experiences with the handling alone --maybe I'll practice on his Civic DX haha :P... Anyway, I may not have the knowledge to tune and tweak the car on my own, but that's what mechanics and forums are for! I'll gladly shell out the money... and forums give me enough info to make sure I don't get shafted hopefully. Now, with that said, would that make me a ricer? Because I'm a guy that knows dick squat about cars but wants to go all out on a 240, even if I don't know exactly how all the stuff in it works? I certainly hope not. The appreciation is there for those of you who do know, and maybe I'll even be lucky enough to learn how to maintain the car on my own without taking it to a shop, but untill then... I'm just the guy workin hard to have a good time!

the s15 conversion is way too expensive for me parts-wise, so i'm gonna stick with the s13 front, i can piece that together for like $700. i'd still like to do the r32 but not knowing of anyone that can help with it or steer me in the right direction with installation, i'll pass on that as well.

I enjoy driving as well, whether fast or just cruising, and don't know jack about cars. As in my sig, I buy it, pay for the mods, and sell it after I've gotten tired of it. I don't put cheap POS stickers on it, nor do I add weedwacking exhaust systems/tips on it, but I do enjoy being seen in it. The first "sticker" I will ever have on my car (and it'll be the last)is "Silencer" on the back of the '02 Camaro SS I'm getting, and even at that, I haven't decided whether to paint it on the back instead. My definition of a ricer is someone that wants to be fast (spoilers), wants to attract attention to themselves "Look at me! Look at me" (loud subs and exhaust tips), and thinks that they are the $hit (check out my neons and lower/body kits).
Ricers are the people that always rev at the streetlights knowing they don't stand a chance, but rarely ever/never go to the dyno or tracks to race.
My :2cents: worth...

The guys from Teamtoilet aren't a bunch of rich snobby punks. They're just hard working young professionals. They happen to be of the opinion that form follows function, and if it isn't going to help them on the race track its useless. Most of those guys' cars are now track cars only, and are towed in for each road racing competition. Mike tows his S2000 with his Jeep from the track to his garage, and that's it. Mike is a local, and the other members of Team Toilet hail from the surrounding SW Michigan areas. They are an actual team that concentrates on motorsports, and not showstopping interior designs. So I give Teamtoilet respect.

The guys from Teamtoilet aren't a bunch of rich snobby punks. Their sense of humor might be a bit abrasive, but they're just hard working young professionals. Over the past couple of years, they've taken their cars from the streets to being track run only. You will never see Mike drive his S2000 around town, but he had a serious street machine in his supercharged Integra Type R like 3~4 years ago that was a street lethal machine. Teamtoilet just happens to be of the opinion that form follows function, and if it isn't going to help them shave precious seconds off their lap times on the road coarse its useless. Most of those guys' cars are now track cars only, and are towed in for each road racing competition. Mike tows his S2000 with his Jeep from the track to his garage, and that's it.

:P
