Knocking sound

My car overheated last week. Now there is a knocking sound happening. The radiator has been replaces along with a motor mount. I took it down to the SHOshop and they told me a few things. I didn't feel they were telling me the full truth. They said that I have a broken pin in the piston due to the overheating. They also said I have oil pressure issues. The oil light came on at first but guess what happened after I changed the oil? The light doesn't come on anymore. The car seems to run fine; it just has a knocking sound. If anyone knows anything about this, I'd appreciate your opinion. Thank you.

Depending on how hot the engine actually got. Sounds like you do have internal damage, and a rod got warped. I don't think it's going away and will possibly do furthur damage with continued driving.

2 other mechanics said it's a classic rod knock. Nothing wrong with the piston. I guess when I have a grand, I'll fix it.

It's a stuck lifter. Turns out I have oil in the spark plugs wells as well. I also have a warped head gasket, yippee. For a mechanic to do it it would cost $2,500+. I've got a Chilton's manual and a wrench (well many wrenchi). I'm good to go.
I've taken off the intake manifold and the valve cover. Everything looks ok (camshafts, etc.) I just need to replace the one that is knocking. It's my project for the week. Yay!

This has been a slow process. I almost have the head off. I'll let keep you guys informed. Sorry about the long wait, my internet is shut down at my house right now till the 10th. I decided to upgrade to 1500/768 DSL (that's from 1500/128)

Took less than an hour of work this morning to get the head off. I took it to a machine shop and they said they will look at the lifters and see if it's stuck. They also said it could be a piston knock. Here's to hoping it's not.

Bad news. Heads are fine. It's a bottom end problem. Going to drop the oil pan tomorrow and check to see what's up (if I can see anything). If nothing is found...it's new engine time ($3500).

if you dont mind getting dirty, rod bearings can be done quite easily.

Everything is seized together. I got a loan and am getting a new engine.

have pinging noise on my 2000 ford taurus and occurs upon acceleration and up hills, brought it to mechanic he said i need new plugs, fuel filter upper engine decarbon and dpfe sensor....total cost 700.00 - 800.00 dollars. i told him he was out of his mind.changed the spark plugs, found one to have porcelein broken off and metal part of plug bent from heat.a little less ping, but still there.one other thing mechanic said he came back with PO402 diagnostics code.does this diagnosis sound right.after reading your post im a little nervous.car does not ping while idle or neutral while gas is applied.any suggestions.
one more thing..after diagnosis and smacked in the face with a potential 700.00 - 800.00$ bill the shop advisor informed me that "i wouldnt be able to get rid of ping, all cars have some ping."(vehicle has about 70,000 miles)

I sort of agree with the mechanic that all cars have some ping. I read in a manual once that if you have a carburated car and it pings then you need to adjust the timing. Now, that timing is not adjustable on most fuel injected vehicles then I would suggest living with the ping or use higher octane level or do more research. If you find the answer, I am interested in reading it.
