Modified Mazda RX-8 Progress

Hello All,
Some of you may've seen my post in Hiroboy's RX-8 Kit thread but I thought I may as well start a new thread anyway.
First off, sorry to dissapoint you but no pics at the moment, hopefully will have some in a few days of it in it's primered state.
The kit I've used as a base is the Fujimi RX-8 Type S kit. Modifications I've done on this kit are:
* Mazdaspeed style front bumper
* R-Magic Sideskirts & Rear diffuser
* R-Magic Eyelids
* Custom Dish Wheels based on the stock Type-S wheels with Scara 2-step dish on them.
* Brembo Slotted & Drilled Disc Brakes
* Lowered suspension
* Front Mount Intercooler (since it's a curbside kit I cannot make a turbocharged 13B engine for it to boot :( )
Plus misc. body mods all over the place to improve the quality of the Fujimi kit.
The colour I am painting it is Metallic Silver with a heavy clear coat. Front headlights and tail lights will be very close to the real ones with a very dark appearance.
Here are some pictures of the items I've scratchbuilt for my car (the real ones, that is)
Mazdaspeed front bar:

R-Magic rear diffuser:

R-Magic sideskirts:
http://www.rmagic.net/rmrx8/8side.jpg
R-Magic eyelids:
http://www.rmagic.net/rmrx8/eyeliney.jpg
Any comments/suggestions on this project? I realise this is difficult without pictures but anything in particular you think would look good on this car? Paint has not been purchased yet so colour suggestions are welcome.
Will hopefully have pictures in 2-3 days :)
Regards,
Ryan

Ok Small picture update.
I've decided to hold off on pics of the body until the kit is finished. But for now, here's the muffler and rims (custom made parts)

http://members.optusnet.com.au/cefiro.tk/images/spc/rx8/muffler2.jpg
http://members.optusnet.com.au/cefiro.tk/images/spc/rx8/rims.jpg
If you're wondering why the mufflers are so short, it's because of the RX8's exhaust system it uses a horizontal muffler rather than conventional type, so i've had to make the custom mufflers really short or they'd stick into the rear wheels....
updates soon, i'm starting work again on it tommorow so hopefully will get the it 99% finished where i'm happy enough with it to take pics of it :D

I just slapped the second layer of putty on the front bar...
I attached a picture of it.... it's VERY rough and i didn't shape the putty much, i'll sculpt it when it's dry into the stage two shape, then finish it off with a final layer of putty to smooth over any areas i miss....
the vent shapes look wrong in this picture because of the way the putty has been put on so go easy on me *puts flame suit on*
I've run outta putty though so i'll have to buy more tommorow afternoon :crying:
anyhoo.... any more comments? :\

Looks good. Your putty looks like cream. :tongue:
BTW: I think the rotary in the RX-8 is a Renesis, not 13b. :dunno:

Hey Jonno,
The putty is Tamiya Epoxy Smooth Putty - It's actually a really light green but due to using the flash there it came up white. It's really similar to Blu Tac very rubbery, great for making bodykits :D
The engine in RX-8's is a 13B, but referred to as a "Renesis" version.
I'll be doing some shaping on the front bar in a couple of hours, pics to follow.

Ok Quick update.
Did some more work on the front bar. As you can see on the left side of the front bar (right side of the photo) it's starting to take shape. I intended to do more however I slipped and cut myself with the scalpel, it'll have to wait til tommorow when the cut is healed some more. Will have putty to finish the skirts and rear bar tommorow, also. :)

Well I got a little more sanding done today, no point posting pictures as it looks the same as the last progress pic but smoother. I've got some more sculpting and such to do, I'll do some when I get home from school today. I haven't had time to do much in the past week, only around 1hr's work on it, but hopefully I can get this project finished within a month (yes, a month, I'm gonna make sure I'm 100% happy with everything on this car.)
This won't be an exact replication of the mazdaspeed front bar, but something similar. This is due to two reasons, 1 being this is my first scratchbuilt bodykit and my skills aren't great, 2nd being I want to make mine a little more individual as I'm sure Fujimi or similar will release a Mazdaspeed variant at some stage.
My fingers are copping a hiding, I've cut myself three times so far due to carelessness, gotta be more careful in future.. :disappoin
I'm also working on three other projects at the moment which is slowing down this process a little... being a Nissan Cefiro, WRX Impreza STi (MY98) and an AE86...
I'm going to try and complete the skirts tommorow also so hopefully I have some more progress to show within the next few days. Fingers crossed :)
Well that's it from me sorry to dissapoint with lack of progress but I'd rather take my time than muck things up anyhow :sunglasse

Quick update!!!!
Front bar is starting to take shape. got a heap more work to do around the vents tommorow, spent about 30 mins tonight sanding..
then ill apply some more putty - gotta make the vents deeper also, so apply some putty to the back of the bar. Also I'll put styrene sheeting on the bottom of the bar to get it nice and flat, then we're in the final stages of front bar construction.
After this I'll finish the sideskirts which are very simple, and the rear diffuser which is also pretty close to standard so won't require much work
See attached pic for front bar progress....

yay finally some decent progress
front bar is ALMOST done just gotta make things symmetrical and make the front lip even along the bottom. I just put styrene sheet under it, once the glue on that dries ill apply more putty to make things even, cut things symmetrically, and then get to work on the skirts!!
http://members.optusnet.com.au/cefiro.tk/images/spc/rx8/DSC01527.JPG
sat the rims there so u can see roughly what they look like
Im gonna paint the centre spokes black, leave the dish chrome, and the car's body will be black also - and i decided to add a GT wing.
also i've gone nuts - i ordered a R1 RX-7 so that I can use the 13BT in this car, also im ripping off the boot lid to do a nice install in there.
stay tuned as this slowly progresses!
also, the vents in that picture look a little odd and uneven due to the putty, but they actually are even/flat :)

man u should feel lucky. at least your parents let you build. mum doesn't want me to start doing these kits until i finish exams in 6 weeks :banghead:

Long time no update. I've had a bit of modellers burnout and my mind's been elsewhere, however I'm in the mood to get back to it. My order from HLJ should be here in a bit over a week, I've ordered everything to finish this car off.
From HLJ I ordered:
* Tamiya Black Spray
* Tamiya Clear Spray
* Tamiya Epoxy Smooth Putty x2
* Fujimi GT-Wing set
* Tamiya Mazda RX-7 R1 (to use the engine)
Also I bought a bunch of red LED's, two 3mm xenon globes, some button batteries and wiring. I'm feeling ricey, so I'm going to put undercar neon/LED's, engine bay LED's, 3mm xenon globes in the headlights as the projectors, tail lights, and interior underseat red LED's and perhaps a clear interior roof light for a bit of contrast. The red light should go well with the black paint.
Will post pics when my stuff arrives :)

515, I bought the LED's and such from a local electornics store.
I'm still waiting on darn HLJ to get some items in stock for me. Hopefully it's this week, I'm itching to finish this off!
The boot *might* have a sound system, depends how much room is left after I add the batteries and such.
Thanks for the comments! *twiddles thumbs and waits for HLJ*
