Supercharged GSR?

What steps do i need to take to Supercharge my Del sol (GSR swap), everyone goes turbo..i wanna try somethin different. I know the Vortech would put me close to 300 HP...but what should i DEFINATELY build up before doin it...prolly gonna run 6...7psi at the most.

everybody goes turbo for a reason. If your looking for speed and good times, a turbo is what you'll need. A sc can be nice and all but you'll still get beat by guys running small shot of nitrous. If vortech say your car can get to 300hp than what you get in the kit will be safe enough to run without a build up.

The vortech is an awesome sc. If your looking for total power, the sc is not the way to go though............. I would go turbo. If your looking for an excellent street drivable car with force induction and not too worried about being the fastest thing out there, then sc is a good way to go. just remember an sc is limited.
A sc can be nice and all but you'll still get beat by guys running small shot of nitrous.
thats a little sarcastic there...........what you meant was big shots of nitrous. nitrous is also a cheap way to go too, but it runs out.
If you plan on buying everything at one time, dont forget to include the ems. It goes a long way.

nope, not sarcastic or wrong. I was trying to be nice about what i was saying. SC suck, plain and simple, you want to race, get a turbo or nitrous. I've seen a 50 shot on a b16 coupe take out a sc gsr with a 10lb pulley. SC are weak, plain and simple, that's why no pro guys use them. Turbo or nitrous, that's the only way to go for me and many others. To say you want to go different with a SC is a shitty excuse like saying you want to use your sohc instead. I don't mean to be rude about anything, i just get bored with hearing about SC are more reliable this and that. I make damn good power and the only that that i've had a problem with is a headgasket due to a poor mixture of race gas and pump gas. I don't want to say how much power my car makes, but it's up there and it's daily driven. Turbo is just as reliable and streetable as stock.

a 50 shot will improve a b16s 1/4 mile time by 1.0 - 1.2 secs.
My 95 ex running on I/H/E ran a 16.1 a little above sea level. 14.5 at a 60 dry shot, more than 1.5 second improvement.
My brothers 00 si on I/H/E 50 shot ran 14.7@97.
My brothers 92 hatch w/ b16a2 ran 13.14@110 w/ JRSC and AEM EMS.
Nitrous will work wonders, its cheaper, but it runs out. SC is wonderful for daily driving, you can work wonders with it too, but it is limited. turbo is wonderful for daily driving too, but only till you boost too high. They all have their pros and cons. Its just depends how you want to go about at it.
Would you also like dyno results? Will post actual dyno results soon.
Sorry, havnt timed or dynoed my daily driver yet. Still waiting on Hoandata and slicks. the 00 si setup is for sale plus the I/H/E, its got new plans for approaching the dark side. Also a JR MAP controller for sale too. Pm for info.

your brother's hatch, was that on slicks or street tires. And with a shot of nitrous you're making more power and can keep that power throughout the band where as a SC dies off and spins hot air. It's just not worth it when you can have a turbo setup and run 12.0 on street tires like me.

not everyone wants to be like u :disappoin he wants to try a SC set-up....well let him....giving ur opnion is fine and well....but trying to persuede someone into not getting something that they want by continuously offering ur :2cents: isn't helping him with what he's looking for.....not everyone wants straight line speed....he may be looking to do something different
ALSO.....u can send ur JRSC to Endyn and they can modify it to put out (i think) up to 24 psi....i searched the sife for where the info was...but u can always go there urself and mail them for info. www.theoldone.com

i'm not giving my opinion to that venomgsr anymore. I'm talking to someone else. First yes, i'm trying to persuade him into something that he'd probably want more. He's gonna be dissapointed with what he has when he wants to turn the boost up more. Great you can send it out and spend more money on the thing to get higher boost. When instead you buy one turbo and can run upwards of 30+psi and I guarentee you'll make more power. I'm just trying to help some, it seems that the people who go SC always want more boost than it can supply and end up selling them at a loss and buy a turbo setup afterwards.

I had also considered a supercharger setup as well for my B16A Del Sol in the distant future. Based on the information I've read and personal opinions, the Vortech supercharger is the way to go for VTEC motors. I believe their kits include everything you need to install it. That includes fuel management and the like. I personally would install a block guard as well, but I'm paranoid so I'd do that anyway.
Personally, I'm not looking to be the fastest thing on the street. More power, better handling, and I'll be happy with that. I make somewhat decent top end anyway, so I'm opting for the supercharger for more focus on the bottom end.
And unless I'm mistaken (and I could be wrong), I think the supercharger is less maintenance than a turbo setup, which is another thing that's appealing to me. I could decide on a turbo eventually, but I'm not buying either anytime in the near future.

Well dont get me wrong...i love turbos...my friends got an 86' 300zxt and it screws(12.2 at 23psi)...and i love the way it sounds. I just thought that GS-Rs werent exaclty Turbo ready..and would take alot of work...since its High compression and all. What would i have to do to go with turbo...cuz ive been doin research..and your right...Turbos are better for straight racin...and dont exaclty have a "limit"..cept too much boost and what not...but What compression piston should i get for the turbo?? Low compression JE pistons?? ...but doesnt gettin low compressions kinda cancel out the point of a GSR motor. ANything else i need to get?? ANy more input would be nice...id love to do more research on what i would need..but workin 4 jobs kinda makes it hectic...thanks

Gsr motors are fine for turbo. I built mine to be a race setup so my block is built. But You can just throw a headgasket on and run upwards of 20psi on a stock block with the right amount of fuel. If you do decide to get pistons and do all that. I would go with arias pistons, 9:1 is a nice number to go with.

i disagree with what is said above. I think it all breaks down into dollars and cents for the product you receive. Turbo is the way to go always. $3k you can boost 5-7psi on a daily driving GSR and that includes everything you need. the price is based on a NON KIT!!! kits are only good if you get them used and for a good price. SC=$3k but is limited...you wanna go higher boost...too bad...you maxed out its efficency. turbo..invest another $1000 and you can boost 12 psi as a daily and easily push 15psi if you really want to. its all about tuning anyway. tuning is more important than anything else you can do.
i cannot stress enough....if you want to run a higher PSI(which you should) go have it tuned...HONDATA!!!!!!....by someone who knows what they are doing. i plan on doing about 10psi on my stock LS w/ upgraded fuel pump, 310cc injectors, and hondata. i could do more but i dont want to have to buy 440cc injectors and i dont want to kill my engine. it has 112k miles on it. i still say turbo.

im me if you want info on turboing B series. i can pretty much map out exactly what you should do. i dont want you to ask me "which manifold is better" thats research bullshit. i will tell you what you need and how much it will cost ya. none of this "tell me if this is good"

i just wish people would now what the hell they are talking about.SC or Turbo.......ummm since when is boost different........it isn't.......it's just turbo's can run higher boost than sc's...........
This isn't the total opposite of the truth at all :uhoh: How is boost NOT different? If your statement was true, you would make just as much power per pound of boost with a vortech or JRSC as you do with a turbo. Guess what? You don't. It's because boost isn't boost. Boost has almost nothing to do with it. It's all about airflow. A bigger turbocharger or supercharger moves more airflow at lower boost levels, and airflow is what makes power. Superchargers also take power away from the crankshaft, so they make less power per pound of boost.
yes if you are 1/4 mile racing turbo's are slighty better way to go......if it is a daily driver sc is the way to go.......but i know of a JRSC Si running high 11's..............if you know how to build the engine around a sc you can do alot. plus sc's don't have too spool.....except for the Vortech, which dosen't really give much more power than the JRSC......now someone will say the Vortech gives the 00 Si 272 hp.........that is crank not wheel, plus that is with Vortech innercooler system added to it..........plus like i said before the Vortech has to spool since it is a centrifical sc.......so all that power comes real late in the rpm power curve.........now the JRSC gives you 190 whp, but it gives usable power throughout the powrband......no spooling required since it is a blower type...............but both are pretty reliable and come with warranties...............but remember boost is boost :slap:
If you know of a JRSC Si running 11's, that's great, but he isn't going 11's without nitrous on top of that JRSC which says a lot about the kind of power they can make. I totally wouldn't recommend a vortech for a daily driver SI. I wouldn't recommend a vortech for an SI, or any high revving motor for that matter, period. Vortech's don't "spool" like a turbo. Vortechs keep spinning faster and faster till you shift. They arn't like turbos where you'll hit peak boost somewhere like 3500-4000 RPM's, they make full boost right at redline. So if you have a vortech pullied for 8 pounds of boost on a motor with an 8000 RPM redline, but the time you're at 4000 RPM's you might be making 2 or 3 pounds of boost. Hardly stellar low and mid range performance, and makes you think twice about when people whine about turbo lag.
