Im having a little dispute with a924 owner. He seems to think that a 944 is only 2800 pounds. My 944 is 3418 pounds curb weight. I weighed it personally and it weighed in at 3396 because of my aftermarket front seats and I took out the rear seats. The tags say 3418. Is my scale and template wrong or is the information hes getting wrong. THe reason Im asking is because the whole conversation started out with rebuilding the exterior of my 944 with complete carbon fiber. Thanks for any reply. Baker

i was thinking of rebuilding the exterior too and was wondering the same.
i heard that it was 2800 dry (no fluids).
could it be that they got lighter in later years?

I'm pretty sure 944's stock wieght is 3100 - 3300 depending on the options. i have an 83 with leather and a LSD and it weighs 3120lbs... I have heard of people reducing the weight to 3000 pretty easily.
The later models did get lighter... the S2's were at about 2900lbs stock.
I was just looking around and i found this site...
http://www.porschedecals.com/944spec.htm
It says that an 1983 944 weight is 2790lbs
http://www.rapidcars.com/944specs.html
this site says it's just under 3000lbs
I found anouther site saying it is 3115 lbs
I see anouther site claiming the 88 turbo s is 3626 lbs!!!!!!!!
puzzleing isn't it?

Hehehe, this discussion sounds familiar Chris ;)
I think the confusion stems from a few things. There is the difference between the early models, 83-85, the late models, 86-88, and the S2, 89-91 and the huge difference between curb weight, which is dry weight, and the wet weight of the car, with all fluids and a full tank of gas.
All of my reading puts the early 944 between 2800 and 2900lbs dry, then figure in things like stereo, extra tools you might be carrying around, etc...
I know my 924 weighed 2450lbs when it rolled out of the factory. Since then, it's lost it's tool kit, spare tire, sound deading(120lbs including the mat in the trunk), air conditioning, and heater assembly(soon to go back in). I have replaced my factory highbacks with seats from a mazda RX7, which weigh about half of what the stock seats did, so I'm estimating a 2250lb dry weight.
