second battery

I want to put another battery in my trunk cause my system kills it as it is and im adding alittle more. Is this as simple as running the pos and neg from the first battery to the back?

just run at least a 4 gauge wire from the pos in the front to the back for the positive connection on the second battery. you can just take 4 gauge and ground it somewhere solid to the trunk for the ground of the second battery. this does add additional stress on your alternator so it will probably fry through time. you might also think of getting at least a 1 farrad capacitor instead/addition to the second battery. if you do get a second battery, try to make it the same specs as your first one so the voltage doesn't try travelling between the two all the time.

Is their any alternators that you would recommend for this? Also i heard they make batteries just for this application do they really work and are they worth it?

if you look on e-bay they have high output alternators for a cav. it puts out 160 amp instead of 100 for around $150. they also have around a 200 amp from summit but it's around $300-$400. the battery you're talking about is a spiral dry cell (optima?). better for discharging and charging back up. around $100 - $150 at auto zone/ advanced auto parts. i would say that the upgraded alternator would be the better of the two since you'll need a more amps to charge both batteries, but the battery will make a difference also. what amplifier(s) are you running?

depending on how much you want to spend, i'd recommend the 2nd battery, cap, and alternator. you'll still get alot of dimmimg of the lights, ec. with all that but it should allow the amps to be able to function properly at there quoted watts. the amount of power they get to them makes all the difference in the world.

would you recommend two drycell batteries one of each or two stock?

the cap. can discharge usually around 20 volts and up to 1000 watts: that means it makes a difference when you are listening to constant bass while there is still an additional beat. it give you more power when it hits. the spiral drycell battery is specialized for discharging and recharging and holds more energy to convert to watts so it helps when you have a strong beat but not constant. the battery takes a little bit longer to charge then the split sec the cap does. i would probably get the spiral dry cell battery and the cap. it also wouldn't require you to upgrade the alternator, although it would help anyway

i would recommend 2 spiral drycell batteries over 2 stock and definately over one of each. the nice thing about the drycells are that they are small, usually warrentied for 4 years free replacement, and have top and side post connections that make them easy to switch between cars or even sell. i'd say the 2 spiral drycells would be a nice investment especially since they are made for use in high powered stereo systems where as the stock are made just for what they need stock

i suggest you have it installed professionally

i did it once (tried to) and it didnt work right and didnt even charge it
