I bought a cam from Summit, it was a Summit brand cam
their own in house brand and I put it in and broke it
in correctly, I drove it about 300 miles no problems
then I started hearing a loud tapping so I checked my
rocker arms and there were no problems so I added a
little oil, and the noise persisted so I bought a new
set of lifters, pulled the intake and pulled the
lifters and the exhaust lifter for the #1 piston was
destroyed, it had been worn WAY down the wear pattern
was in the shape of a bowl on the bottom of the
lifter, so I called summit and they told me I had a
problem with my lifter bore and that the lifter wasn't
spinning, but if that was the case, then there would
only be one single groove made in the lifter it had to
have been spinning a little to make that kind of bowl
shaped wear they wouldn't do anything except give me a
refund, so I had to spend an entire weekend tearing
down my motor and buying a new cam and replacing the
old one. I think that the Summit cam was ground wrong
the lobe of the cam sat dead center under the lifter
and 3 local speedshops told me that on a hydraulic cam
the lobes need to be a little offset to make the
lifter spin, so my lifter was spinning but only
little bit, after I pulled th esummit cam I looked at
it and the lobe that had been under the destroyed
lifter was flat, what do you huys think was the
problem? this time I put a Crane cam in I was
wondering if this is a good cam?
