dirty oil and emissions

within a month of a fresh oil change and oil filter change, my oil gets black, and i see a bunch of emissions from my side view mirror. a whole bunch of whitish smoke comes out, primarily when i change lower gears. i dont know if these two problems are related, but maybe thats where one of you could help me out. i am running a d16a6 with always 89 octane fuel here in hawaii (2 bucks a gallon :shakehead ) i know that i am running rich, maybe this can account for one of these problems or even both. any help would be greatly appreciated.

maybe they didn't do regular oil changes. try changing until it becomes clean.

have you tried adding engine lubricant?

also what kind of motor oil are you using?

no i havent tried using engine lubricant, and i am using 10w30. i just bought a new oil filter and 4 liters of 5w40 oil. my car has 110000 miles on it. thanks for your help.

try thicker oil because it might be leaking through and being burned with the fuel.

Buy an engine compression tester. They're very cheap, and definitly worth the preventive maintenance. It's just a little gauge with a hose on it.

You unplug your spark plugs, screw this thing in, have a friend turn the key to start the car (it won't start it though, it will just turn over because the plugs are out) and look for the one cylinder (or more) showing a drastically different pressure reading than the other ones. On your car it should read 176 +-10. If one is like 140-150 then you have a fried piston ring and oil is seeping up into the combustion chamber, burning with the fuel, and blowing smoke out the back. New rings aren't cheap, but you could buy a junkyard engine in great condition for about $150 :)
