Funny thing i was reading about 5.0's...

I was reading 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords the other day, and I came across this article about a pretty quick stockish 5.0..... It was a 88 GT that ran "13.80s with nothinig more than short belt and bumped timing."

Then later in the same article, regarding a 87 GT.... "With the silencer pulled and timing bumped, the car ran 13.998 at 101_ with just its factory 3.08 gears!"


Is that possible??? Oh crap, sorry about all those things.. I just spazzed out. agggh.

I can see it being possiable with a stock motor. But I'm willing to bet that they were running on slicks and highly modified suspensions, that can handle high rpm launches. Getting a good 60' is key in drag racing!

It is possible in a 5 speed car with a race pulley, bypass belt, and timing bumped with a good driver.

I know a guy running 14.2s on a stock 89GT. Its possible but they're few and far between.

Other thing is in these articles most of the times happenend when the 5.0's were new or failry new. Now with most of us getting our 5.0's near,at,or over 100,000 miles. These are far from fresh motors and far from putting out the hp and torque they did when they were new motors.

that point right there makes me want to do my engine rebuild even more. It'll be just like having a new motor... except it will be something that i've done, something to add to the list of life experiences - and turn some heads when i'm done.

yea but was it lightened up at all or even tubbed out. they coulda meant stock motor.

I belive mm@ff was doing a build up on an 88 lx aod....with slicks and u/d pulley and silencer removed it ran something like a 13.8xx......slicks.....hmm......ive never seen a completely stock non bumped ignition...silenced non u/d pulley mustang run better than a 14.7...that was a 91 gt 5spd.......with a half way decent driver.....the car had 102k on it when he bought it....who knows what it runs know....it has since then been wrecked..Poor stang....
