Speedometer not working.

I have a 2000 Civic Ex, and about a month ago my alternator and battery went out so i replace them. After replacing them, when I drove my car, my speedometer would jump around, so i unplugged the wire from the vehicle speed sensor, and reset the ecu and pluged it back in, and now when i drive, my speedometer does not work, and the mileage meter doesn't move either. Anyone know what could be wrong with it?

make sure all the plugs are pluged in all the way and use electrical plug cleaner spray stuff on the plugs. If that doesnt cure the problem its either the guage cluster or the speed sensor (ususaly the cluster).

I can almost gauruntee you need to push your wires into the sensor harder. This same exact thing happened to my buddy's '90 Si after I replaced his transmission with a new one. Speed sensors aren't cheap so it's definitly worth triple checking the tightness of the wires. I don't know how you could have loosened it because the alternator is on the other side of the engine, but again it's worth fiddling around with.

I cleaned the terminal with the spray and pushed the wires as hard as I can, even behind the cluster. And still the speedometer, and the odometer don't work at all, my tach, gas and temp gauges work fine.

I don't know if you can take speed sensors to get tested at autozone or whatever, but if you can, do that. Otherwise go to a junkyard and buy one for a 96-00 dx, lx, hx, or ex civic.

I had this crap happen to my 96' Civic one time. The speedometer jumped around like you talked about. As mentioned, if you take it to autozone they check that crap for free, its most likely the sensor which costs upward of $450 to fix. Honestly if the odometer doesn't work just leave it all alone and in a few years it will look like your car has 1/2 the miles! Sell that bad boy for twice the price!

AC
