Howdy all 240 lovers, just thought I would introduce myself since Im new here, and this will be like my 2nd home. Im 16, guess you can call me by my user name which is also my middle name. I dont have a car as of now, my mom is buying me a car in Feb. I know what it is but I'll keep it a secret and post pics up here for you guys. But...In the meantime Im on the market for a 240Sx Fastback to be my daily/drift car. I think I found the one Im gonna get, 30 miles away, its a 89' 240Fastback, good ac, new battery and tires. Thing is the guy says "Needs new engine", I dont really know whats wrong w/ the engine and from the sound of the guy he doesnt either, but doesnt matter, Im gonna get her and set her up in my garage and put a Sr20 Red top in her. I think its a nice find for $750.oo....Anyways thats about it...Cant wait to get to know you all!...One more thing, please dont confuse me or label me as one of these newbie kids that has just jumped on the Drift-bandwagon. I love the sport, the thrill of it, yes I have drifted before, and it will break my heart if Drifting blows up and America whores it down to having little HotWheel version of Fumiaki Komatsu's Nissan 180.....That is all and good day.

hope you have a good job and good income and money cause sr swaps are a pain in the ass, i just did one with my friend, took 3 weeks. Had to get wireing harness and ecu even though it was garenteed on the front clip. So far its costed him around $5000 not including the car. If your gonna do it, go to a shop that is familiar with it and that can order you the engine and install it so that way they have to deal with all that shit. In no way was that swap fun, i ended up wanting to bash my head through a brick wall :banghead: . We finaly got it working on friday and was very dissapointed, was not as good as alot of people said it is. Another thing that was dissapointing was the left front lamp was bashed in the fenders bent and the hood looked like someone threw a brick on it. Doing this swap pretty much cut my liking 240's down near zero. I dont even know if i want another one. Next car i get is gonna either have the swap already done perfect or come with a turbo on it stock, or mustang with a fucking blower on it. So basicly what im coming too is it just not that easy, especialy for a 16year old, i remember when i was 16 i wanted to get custom 21/2 inch pipes made for my stang and i didnt know were to go, or what to say when i got there. That mostly happened on anything i wanted to do or have done. And later on when i though my car was fast i used to go around racing and being stupid, and you know what, i flipped my car. If i hadnt installed a saleen roll bar i would have no head and my body would be ground down to my lower back. I mean i swapped engines before like my carbed mustang V6 for a carbed v8, that was incredibly simple compared to swaping a SR into a 240, technology is so much better and alot more complicated. So bascily i wouldnt recommend that swap for a 16year old. I wouldnt even recommened getting that car with a bad engine. But if you do go through with it and get that car, please do a carfax report. I just bought a subaru legacy wagon and i just replace the radiater, whole exhaust system and low and behold the underneath of the car looks like it sat in salt water for a few weeks, i dont even think it will pass inspection. Well anyway welcome aboard and good luck with what ever you plan on doing.

Thanks for the warning, but Im still gonna take my chance w/ it. I have no job, but I got whats left of what I worked for this summer, which is $630 or so. I asked my mom if I bought the car if she would pay for the engine, and she said that she isnt funding for 2 cars for me. So we worked out an agreement to take out 2K or how much ever its gonna cost to get the car and Sr20, from my College fund, and after I get a job, before I go out blowing it, I gotta pay back my College money I barrowed. Everything is seeming to work out pretty good. My cousin has a shop w/ everything needed to do the swap, he has done one swap so far, swapped a 2.3Turbo into his Foxbody mustang (The car I drifted). So hopefully everything will go smoothly.

good, looks like your set. But swapping the svo engine into a fox mustang is a little less complicated but alteast he has some experiance and having a shop is gonna make it a hell of alot easier. Just research the wireing and ask around for the best place to get the engine. good luck.

I like SOHC KA's that's why

GRR for some odd reason I keep on thinking in the back of my head that if I do the SR20DET swap to my car I'm gonna be disappointed with the outcome:dunno::screwy:

at first thats how it probably would be, so i would just wait till i get amazing parts before i say that the engine is craptacular. and if so many jap tuners use em, why would it be shit or disappointing for that matter.. so that keeps me thinking joyfully :smokin: .

This poor kid is gonna have nightmares if he gets this car and tries to finance a swap through his student loan. IMO, don't mean to be a hater. He's gonna run out of money real fast and end up kicking himself while he works 16 hours a day.

Student loan?...No...Its my College savings or whatever you like to call it. Ever since I was born my parents pay in $500.00 a month, Im simply just taking 2-3K outta that savings and whenever I get a job, I pay whatever I took out. lol Theres no 'loan' especially w/ no student organization.

Damn, dude. Go to a state school instead of a private school, and you'll have like $60-70k to spend on a car :P. $40k/year for school is just way too much. And I know whereof I speak: I'm a senior at Duke, and I regret not going to UNC. The education would have been just as good; the social life would have been better; and the cost would have been far less. And then I could have gotten a better car :P.

I dont know where I wanna go or what I wanna do. I plan on going to a Arts & Music school, then go on to U.T. or U.C.L.A. and study to do whatever I wanna do if I dont make it as a paid musician. My parents dont have a ideal College they want me to go to or even say I have to, I could go to County College for all they care, they just wanna make sure I have my options open. I dont know...lets re-frame from this topic, I get nervous and depressed when I think how/what Im gonna do when I get older. :uhoh:

No worries, mate. I'll have a psychology degree by May, and I have no idea what the hell I'm gonna do with that ; ). So you live in Dallas, eh? I call Frisco (Frisco, TX; not a conjunction of San Francisco for those not from the DFW area) home when I'm not here at school. Did you go check out the 89 S13 yet? Any news?

wow $500 a month? You should have about $100,000, with interest probably close to $150,000... $2-3K out of that isnt much.

If I had that much money I dont think I'd be buying an old S13. I dont see why you need that much money in your college fund anyway. I pay less than $6,000 a year for 30 credit hours and my Purdue degree is going to look a hell of a lot better than the guys that go to private colleges around town and pay $30,000 a year (eg. St. Francis, Taylor, etc.) Most people have never heard of those.

Eh...its my moms wishes to make sure I keep as much money in there until I get out of highschool. My older brother had the same thing setup for him and he went half way through College to be a vet, and ended up dropping out cause his gf just had a baby back at home. To make a long story short he ended using the rest of his College money to start a business and it fell under and he broke up w/ his GF/Wife, and then he had not enough money to go back to College. Anyways the reason I wanna keep it there is if I do choose music as my life after I finish art/music school, Im going to use the rest to get studio time and what not.....blah blah yadda yadda, Ive said too much.

Geez! How many bothers/siblings do you have that dad & mom are putting away .5K/month for?!? Better yet, don't answer. It's clear they have too much money. Donate some to AF!

(What happened to the kids like me that had to work for their first POS car, their first Beautiful car, and their lives? I had to PAY $5K long summer hours, and afterschool days for my VW Vanagon.)

Well of course...I got ahold of the guy awhile ago (I stayed home from school, because the guy obviously gave us his work #) and he sold it. Well next thing is looking for another 240. I got a friend that is selling his 240, no mods that I know of, its like an 89' and everything works fine he says and has like 148K miles for $2,000, seems bit high. Also what Im thinkin of doing is going ahead and getting a 240 w/an Sr20det already in it, seems like that actually is coming out to be cheaper than doing buying a 240 w/a KA and buying a Sr20 and doing the swap. Or another option im thinkin of is buying a KA and just doing all the other mods first like coilcovers, LSD, rims/tires and do a few bolt on mods. I dont know how well KA engines do in Drifting, probally not near as ideal as Sr20's but whatever. Give me some idea's on what I should do from point to point. I got about 3,500-4K for the whole thing, and please dont give me cosmetic/exterior mods, just mods and ideas for drifting.
