Greetings fellow 4runner enthusiasts!
I finally took the top off of my 4runner recently and it was sick! Well I had to put it on again and as soon as I did the rear window stopped working...it worked when I had the top off, too. My Dad said he never took the top off of his because he had heard of electrical problems associated with it.
What should I do? Anybody out there experienced this?
I'm gonna disconnect the battery to reset everything, and then try it again, but otherwise I am not very electric savvy.
Thanks in advance for your input!

well I would start with checking to see that you didn't pinch any wires
while puting the top back on. then, find power window motor and listen for any sound while operating. if none present, take connector off and
check for voltage. if present probable cause is bad motor. you could go
a step further and compare resistance values or just replace. if no
voltage is present at connector, back track system. ooh make sure all
fuses are good( not blown) before testing...... good luck.

First off, I hope you did'nt listen to the previous response, as there are several other possibilities before you rule out the window motor (like I did).
Next when you had your top off did you put the bolts back in thier holes, if you did you probably did the same thing I did. There is a switch on drivers side by the roll bar ( you have to remove the interior trim panel to get to it). I had wound up pushing the bottom out of this switch when I put my bolts back in. it is fairly easy to put back together but you have to find the bottom plate (it should be black metal) somewhere in the bedwall or you can just bypass this switch altogether by splicing the wires together. After I did this my window worked fine for a while.
Eventually my window stopped working again. The previous switch was fine so I ruled it the window motor. I was wrong. It actually was part of the door lock latch. On the rear door lock latch (drivers side) there is a control switch, again, that will not allow power to the rear window motor, if the door is opened. If your willing to go through the half hour to an hour repair procedure your window should work fine. It is fairly simple to remove (although time consuming) and really simple to clean up. I hope this little bits help you. Email me at reed23@email.com if you need anymore help.

Ah man, Thanks for the help, unfortunately I just paid Toyota $75 to tell me the same thing! DANGIT! Oh well, yeah it was the switch in the side of the truck. It must have fell out when I put the top back on, unfortunately the switch was no where to be found (I suspect foul play by the dealership mechanic, and they wanted to charge me $260 to do the repair!!! Can you believe those chumps?) so I had to buy another for $40
Thanks again,
rock on
