I have a 99 Civic DX with the ever crappy D16Y7 under the hood, and I've been thinking of swapping a VTEC head onto it. Which head from which engine do I need to get? Also what other stuff do I need to pick up to complete this? Thanks for the help!

Hey hey hey d16y7 is a great engine me and you got same car alos you have same as option and if he reads this and hear you call d16y7 crappy he is going to have some words for you.

My time is not much to look at but option is runnin 16.4 or 5 with his setup and my car is almost where his car is mod wise but have not ran at track since I got CAI. I am going headers and Exhaust then I am takin it back to track

and as for the vtec head not worth the money you can add intake and exhuast and have same Hp as you would get with vtec head

Plus right now your car should be faster then a EX I beat a 97 Ex friday at street races my first win against a ex in a long time so I am 2-2 vs EXs

to answer your question, a D16Y8, and a EX harness and computer. and sorry but intake and exhaust will not bump 106HP up to 127HP (even though the head swap wont get to 127 like the Y8, still more HP than I/E)

intake, exhaust and a header would probably still only give you about 15 if you are lucky. I say go for the head and then later get the bolt ons.

or get a B16 or something. id try finding a way to get a DOHC ZC to urn in obd2 for a cost effective solution to speed, but you would most likely wanna rebuild the ZC thop so it wouldnt be too cost effective. but it woiuld be a good cheap starting place.

how fast do you eventually wanna be?

Swaped head is not worth money you will be just a fast with I/E/H

In fact you will be faster then stock Ex cus of its weight I did not mean he would have same Hp just mean he wil be faster for less money The swap is not worth the work or money

but later down the road hes just about got a D16Y8, and I/H/E when he wants to drop in more cash. sure he could go for the bolt ons first and add the hed if he wants to. but the head swap will be cheapewr than the I/H/E i think. probably even cheaper than the header alon. good header is like 300 bucks. the head/ecu/harness could probably be found for that at a wrecking yard. I dont know how much prep there is to the block/head for the mini me, but i knwo with crvtec it is simple, they even have dowels out that you dont have to drill them, just plug old supply and run new lines.

I've already got the cai/h/e, plus AEM pulleys and cam gear, I can beat my sister's EX with ease. Now I'm looking for more HP, and I saw a VTEC "mini me" swap for sale on eBay, but it was for a D16Z6 head and stuff, here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33617&item=2430956264. Maybe I'll take a ride to the junkyard this week.

I wouldn't mind going with a CRVTEC, maybe built from a Dart B20 block, but until I can get a winter beater, this car is it.

so yeah, if you got all thet then go for the mini me, it will be MUCH MUCH cheaper than crvtec, although nowewhere near as powerful. I think honda shoulda made an engine that was a DOHC D series VTEC, just a little work to the old ZC or something, rev happy like the B16. that way swaps to get a civic moving would be so much easier. no new tranny/mounts/axles/etc...

but they didnt so you gotta do what you gotta do.

So would the D16Z6 parts would work with my D16Y7 block? I'd hate to get them and find out the hard way that they don't work. Could I get the parts from any D-series VTEC, or just specific engines?

I dont know, find out what all sensors are on the 5th gen EX manifold/TB, then the 6th gen EX manifold/TB and if its the same it would work. buit you gotta get the OBD2 computer from a 6th gen EX.

or get a skunk 2 adapter harness and use the OBD1 from a EX/SI or sol SI. dont know much about this swap but youll probably have to add a knock sensor to the block.

you doing this yourself? or paying to have it done?

swap for a b18b. cheap motor that u'll actually see/feel a difference (i/h/e u aren't going to FEEL the "gains" much)

I was thinking of doing it myself, but I ran into a buddy of mine last night, and he's got a new guy working on his car, maybe I'll see if he'll do it. Now I just gotta find my buddy again....

As for the B18B, if I was gonna swap the entire engine, I'd build a B20, but unless any of you guys can get me the swap for a few hundred bones, single cam it is.

cheapest ive seen a B18 swap is 2200. so i guess your sticking wiht single cam, and I would do it myself it it wsa my car, I hate paying people to do what i should be learning how to do, so i dont.
