Any tips on programming the keyless door entry? Just picked
up a 2000 XLT, but don't know the door entry code?
Thanks

Hey Slap72,

I just bought a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT too. The dealership didn't know the key code and the card with the code was not included with the owner's manual. Fortunately for me, there was a man there who knew where to look.

What you will need to do is get a flashlight and a if you have a small mirror, it would be helpful. I just happen to have one that I bought for doing PC repairs. When you open the back hatch of your Explorer you should have an access panel on the left that hold the jack and a crowbar. Open it and look inside towards the right. There are some wires connected to a white box. From what they told me, this is some type of computer, I guess for the security system. It won't be easy to see, but the factory code is written on the front of that box. I pulled the plastic panel out as much as I could and used the mirror and flashlight combo to read the number.

It worked for me. I hope it does for you as well!

I was told that in order to get the codes for any 2000 or newer Ford Explorer, it had to be hooked up to the computer system in an mechanic. The Dealership that I took it to said that it would cost fifty dollars to do that.

But they could be wrong. People previoulsy told me that I could find the info by opening up the little compartment near the stearing wheel when the drivers door is open.

Original poster please let us know if the advice the other guy told you helped.

Chancedog was right on. The code there worked for me and I have reprogrammed the door code.
1. Put in factory number (it always works).
2. Within 5 seconds enter 1
3. Enter 5 digit personal code with no more than 5 seconds between each entry
That does it.

[QUOTE=BarryKlein] Slap...... I found mine there tonight after coming here. I should have done it 2 hours earlier! I took the top bracket screw out ...and rotated the bracket down and back. Found a 5 number code on the paper sticker. Be carfull when you put the bracket back up. DON'T DROP THE SCREW!.
