Testors airbrush - opinions?

Hey guys. I finally found a job a while ago, and now all my savings will be going into modeling. Yea, a distructional addiction :P
ANyhow, i just bought testors airbrush, so before i hook it all up, tell me if it's worth using it?

Which one did you buy? I have one for my interiors and it works pretty well. Mine was pretty cheap if you compare it to some of the ones people here use.

(but hey, I'm a teen who has no job and uses holiday money) I can't buy those expensive airbrushes.

If you've bought the brush then you should be telling us if it is any good. :biggrin: If it works and is cheap, great!

I've got two airbrushes a Passche and Iwata. Both are excellent - I recommend them highly. Go for the enrty level brush by one of these two brands and you'll do well, both in terms of quality and value.

I like testors airbrush. I painted some parts on corvette i just bought, and every layer is very smooth. But there is one dilemma, i have to buy a lot of paint cans to get this car and parts painted :lol2:

i had a bad experience with it .... was painting a 69 Camaro and the thing "exploded" blue paint went EVERYWHERE , needless to say , i sanded it down , and used a spray can . brush the rest of the way

For less than twice that you could have bought a Paashe H or for US$60 you could have an Iwata!

Have you tried cleaning your existing brush out? If it just shoots air it could be clogged up with old paint.

At last count I own something like 7 airbrushes. Until 1993, I was using a Paasche VL-1 double-action airbrush (still one of the best out there) and a Paasche H-1 single-action for doing single colors. Then I bought the Testors Model Master Professional airbrush. The premise made sense - cleaning is easier, nozzle changes and color changes were easier, no more leaky braided hoses. To this day it's the best airbrush I have yet used.

The MM Professional was replaced by the Aztek A470. Same great airbrush, with added rubber grips to the body. I treated myself to an A4709 kit (the one in the mahogany wood case) and gave the MM Pro to my wife who does crafting. They are both working like a charm.

I cannot speak for the Testors lower-end airbrushes as i have not used them. But the A470 has never given me a problem at all and is so incredibly versatile. I've sprayed automotive lacquers, automotive acrylic enamels, Humbrol enamels and clear coats, Tamiya and Gunze Sangyo acrylics, even Krylon sprayed out of the can into a jar and transferred to the paint cup of the airbrush.

If you decide to buy an Aztek A470, make two other investments with it: the Airbrush Cleaning Station (this also doubles as an airbrush holder, and the new ones on sale have adapters so you can use it with ANY airbrush), and the Coiled Air Hose (which will give you some latitude in your movement).

First rule of airbrushing: no matter what, keep the thing clean!!!!
